I think you've hit the nail on the head for why Ferrari more than likely has denied him allocations.
    Beautifully said. :)

So this means at the end of the day, he is a very shrewd businessman, turning the seemingly "negative" incidence into another promotion material for his business. His picture in the LA Times is his business picture in the store.

To create the huge spike in new followers, Lee merged several Instagram accounts.

Most likely he bought them. I believe two of those IG accounts allegedly involved big 4X4 (think huge wheeled US 4X4s flying the Rebel flag) and serious pieces of automatic metal you take to a range (not golf). Hardly accounts you'd expect Mr Lee to passionately own and take time to build through hundreds of carefully curated posts.

Another significant Ferrari collector went from almost no followers to 150,000 in two weeks. Unless you're a global A-List star, that's pretty much impossible and most likely by purchasing accounts/followers. Very odd behaviour.

Buying followers isn't illegal (though Facebook is trying to curb it) and someone is making big money from creating these in-a-sense-fake accounts, and selling them on.

Why would someone like Lee buy huge numbers of IG accounts to drive up a total headline number of followers? Narcissism.

If you read Lee's posts he sincerely believes he is now a global inspiration to the youth of today. A role model extraordinaire. The poor chap has ended up believing his own story. It's actually very sad.

IG is a superb platform for sharing passions, whether cars, cakes or castles. The techniques to curate material is becoming more complex and fascinating, very different from the complementary older-world of FerrariChat style forums. There are some very significant ''Influencers'' on the platform - photography, cooking, health, sport etc.

But Lee is not one of these Influencers. Quite the opposite. My guess is others know this too.

A very interesting post and perhaps slightly off topic but I do feel one of the positive things he does try and do is instil a sense that people need to work for things and that to me is to be commended.

What one would gain by running an article about not getting a car is really a mute point. Frankly with LE cars someone is always not going to get and logically in life people don't always get what they want.

If I were in the business of selling rare and collectible items in an industry often plagued by counterfeits and fakes, I would find it counterproductive to publicly misrepresent other rare and collectible items in such a grandiose manner.

David lee just said on instagram he has data that experts don't and that it has been to races and a rally.

He's also claiming the writer of the LA Times article has misrepresented him rather than focus on the collection. And whoever lamborghiniks is, is telling him that's how Ferrari treats its clients bc they can just live off their name alone.

It could have been to races and rallies, wouldnt make it an Ferrari SEFAC car. Not even a corse clienti. If i buy a 488 and strip it and race it, i will just end up with a track 488 and not a 488 GTE. He is just proving he doesnt know much about the market and the history.

Im not sure of your intentions of your post...

but I can assure you... MM has far more data than david lee will ever have at his fingertips.

Saying he has secret access to data experts dont is just a line of complete horse****.

    Thank you.

    I agree with this.

Yes, but ultimately others will decide that.

Agreed, to be fair, that's always a positive.

    So very true.

That's factually possible, but, it doesn't prove that this 250 GT Lusso was built by Ferrari SpA as a Competizione as claimed.

Methinks perhaps poor Charles Fleming has outlived his usefulness, and may now know what the underside of a bus feels like.

    That's Gold, Jerry, Gold.

    Correct.

I think bonneau13 was simply reporting the Instagram post.

Meanwhile, if there is any proof that the Lusso was built a Competizione, now would be a good time to proffer it, lest this car go down as one of the most controversial vintage Ferraris in recent history.

    Another Jewel (no pun intended).

I have no idea, I'm not sticking up for him. I commented on a photo that his lusso was not a real competizione and he appeared out of nowhere saying experts don't have the data he does. It's on theferrarist instagram

Can someone explain to me the benefit of Instagram followers (beyond Ego Massage and Corporate publicity?)
Why do I need "Instagram followers"?
What am I going to get out of it?
How does my Ferrari-ownership-experience get "enhanced" by instagram followers? Do these guys repair my car? Or clean it for me? Or pay for it?

Serious question (except for the last sentences)?
Seriously - why do you need to document every bit of your ownership (and life) and put it into the public domain? Is it to "SHARE"? hahaha :shakes head:

I remember on the FordGT application forms they wanted to know your Instagram/Youtube

Ford have certainly allocated quite a lot of cars to people who post lots of car photos and have a big following

Porsche are the same - there are a few IG accounts which were given GT3RS cars having never previously owned any specials Porsche cars

Marketing people in all these car firms love social media and you do wonder sometimes if the car brand is more important than the cars.
Recently we have clearly seen Porsche decide to launch the GT2RS car at a computer games event rather than a car event - I imagine that by the time we get to the 812"GTO" Ferrari will be interested to see your internet presence before allocating you a car

If one can get beyond the background noise (and I accept at times it can be challenging) there is an increasing and significant global community of passionate car enthusiasts producing excellent photos and videos: owners, dealers, manufacturers, specialists, historians/curators and (very talented) photographers/spotters.

Some content comprises hilariously good videos (for example @powerslidelover), some comprise fascinating and impressive owner fly-on-the-wall pictures (@greg.23 @swizzcars), many comprise wonderful classic car photos that have been carefully curated (@ferrari.lovers) plus a host of enthusiasts, dealers and other curators. And not forgetting the excellent content from Ferrari itself (@ferrari, @scuderiaferrari).

Inevitably certain collectable cars will be traded informally via the platform, I also wouldn't be surprised cars that are easily recognisable will be relatively harder for criminals to offload, once the cars are known to the vast community.

For many the platform will remain frivolous, and in many cases that's exactly what it is. Even embarrassing. But for an increasing number, dig deeper and it's excellent platform, on many levels.

Well he'd say that wouldn't he...but like Technom says, guys like MM would know more about that car than Lee ever would.
Bloody shame that, isn't it? Especially if one wishes to stay anonymous.
