I have a 1991 348 with 11K miles. I am repainting my 348 and thought that this would be the perfect time to do the belt service since the car hasent been done in 15 years. Just for the record, after 15 years the belt looks good as new.
Just thought I would share about my engine removal without a lift. First let me say it could not of been any easier. In all my life this was probably one of the fastest and easiest engine removals I have ever done, even without a lift. Once everything was disconnected, I lifted the front of the car up and put ramps under the tires, then I simply put an 8 ft steel bar under the back of the car and jack it up from both sides. The complete process from start to finish was under 4 hours.
Ok.... so... its not the most elegant way to do it, but its cheap, easy, fast and got the job done.

Seems I cant post a photo because it too big, if anyone has a photo crop maybe they can get it to post here.

So would you say it was a $7k job to do the major service??? I figure parts (including the water pump) should be around $2k. Would you guess the labor is worth $5k? It is worth that to me, but I am just not inclined to do that sort of work. Get it? Inclined? Oh, I am funny today.

I would say its not worth 5000 in labor. I would charge around 1200-1500$ in labor for the full service

Just curious. If the car only had 11k on the clock I would have thought the paint would be in pretty good condition, maybe not since the belts were never changed. Are you changing colors?

I heard Rifledriver uses the same process in his shop for engine removals! Only he uses long crow bars!

Say, Ferrari348turbo, I can feel the "payne" for you after the girlfriend incident! So, are you still a couple?

Are you not afraid to park that now in front of windows?

Good job on DIY but please be careful. You do not need to pull the engine all the way out. You just need to lift the rear of the car enough to rotate the engine 45 degrees. This is the Reiner method. He first talked about it on FC and I helpped him do it. I still us a full lift. Over the years well worth it.

Please use the right tools or make a decent set-up. You saved $5000 but the hospital bill will be priceless!

Come on guys of course she is still my girlfriend, how could anyone think I would leave her just over a silly accident or just a tiny itsy witsy total destruction of a beautiful paint job ... thats just not me... Im so much more mature then that... I base our relationship on love and understanding and that shes the one who bought me the car :)

As it turns out, having the car that high is real nice. Do you guys have any idea how hard it is to paint a car that sits 3 inches off the floor, its a back killer and I'm over 6 foot tall. That left me with 2 choices. Find a midget that knows how to paint cars, or do it myself while its raised up.

Would that not be a "tall" order?

It's so nice to know that Ferrari348Turbo is such a sensitive and "relationship" oriented person.

We really should have a topic for the males with a sensitive side just for those to express their feminine side! Would we need a separate ladies room for that?

    He absolutely does.

He even covered them with red felt because he knows how fussy Ferrari owners are!

Nice job but, I really wouldn't advise leaving the car on those blocks. You don't wanna be under there if they decides to break. If you are looking for jackstands that are tall enough, try going to a shop dealing with big rig semi-trucks. They have some that should get you plenty of clearance. Much safer than cement blocks.

    Other than that, ata boy.

    I don't think he's whipped. I think he's just got a very sensitive side!
