My '74 TR6.... Have owned loads of these. I have a soft spot for them, as my father gave one to my mother for their 5th wedding anniversary when I was just a little kid. This car happens to be the same year and color as "mom's".... Not to mention, I bought it after the PO had dumped $21K into it, so needless to say, it drives quite 'properly'. As you can see, the "tits" have been removed from the rear bumper. As I kind of like them (don't we all?), I found a pair of used ones which will be going back on shortly. The only thing that irks me about the car, however, is that they used a different-from-original patterning for the seat upholstery. But either way, once your ass is planted in the driver's seat, you forget all about that trivial detail Cheers, Aaron Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My 308 has gone and once again I've gone for Red and pointed at the front. First was a Fiat x1/9 for 11yrs, which I adored. I had more driving fun in that car than any other. Next I really pushed my limits to get a 308GTS. I always knew it was temporary and seven (!!) years later I safely recovered my savings and converted them into bricks and mortar. So what next?... it is back to my school days with a mongrel TR7 v8. Badged as a TR8 and claiming to have had a full TR8 conversion, it is nothing of the sort... wrong brakes, wrong rear diff ratio and a few other corners cut. It isn't running well, but I love it. Retro-fitted with a Rover 3.5ltr V8 with a four pot Holey / Offenhauser twin way manifold, eight branch exhaust headers and is reputedly good for 185Bhp and makes a fabulous noise. Clearly one choke has a fuel way blocked, as it leans out badly on part throttle, but even now it has wonderful easy torque. Its going to be a great rolling project. If it had been a true blood TR8 I would have had to treat it with respect, but somebody has already mixed this car up, so I have no qualms about treating it as a project and engineering it to suit my taste. Plans: 15inch wheels (bought) fettle the Holley and tuning problem(s) bigger brakes 4 pot callipers front on 280mm vented discs, 2 pot on 250mm solid rear disc conversion, select better master cylinder to shorten the brake pedal revised springs and shock absorbers, revise bushing correct taller rear diff and, maybe, limited slip diff new, more effective alloy radiator, fan(s) and fairings refit water damaged interior (already got a set of Jaguar XJ-S seats lined up...) Respray into something eye catching I'm not converting it into a track car, merely tightening everything up a little. I want it remain a comfortable cruiser. But most importantly... get some use out of it. The Ferrari was an absolute joy, but every outing required an amount of pre-planning to ensure it was safe from the weather or other unwanted attention. Consequently the 308 didn't go on some of the grand tours that, perhaps, it should have done. The TR is going to be a more relaxed experience... I had a tr6 back many moons ago when i was in college...beautiful car, but what a piece crap as far as quality and engineering. They really need to be redone completely to make them reliable and modern. you cant beat the character and the looks. anyone remember the truimph coupe???
I likes this... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice Triumph TR3s there! Here's my dad (left) and me (right) out for my first drive in his 1959 Triumph TR3A... Image Unavailable, Please Login All the best, Andrew.
I have a thing for TR6 race cars... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login That windscreenless/barchetta look is just so cool. Maybe run one on the street, powered by one of those tiny, ultra-light Hayabusa-based 2.6L V8s from Hartley... 400+hp from an engine that is lighter than the old straight 4... awww yeah! damn! that looks really cool.... it will give you something to admire while you wait for AAA to pick you up
That is fantastic! That must of been a real blast. I still remember my first ride in a Triumph TR4 as a kid...
Nice choice! May I suggest up-rated (hard rubber) suspension bushings along with Koni shocks/struts and the correct TR8 springs? That's how I set up my ex-TR8 and it rode nice, firm and quite. I drove a friend's 8 that had polys and it was certainly stiffer...
My first car, bought in 1996 about a year before I got my license, was a 1974 Triumph Spitfire 1500. Its the reason I fell in love with British cars. I've had several toys since then (nothing uber-exotic obviously) but came back to the brits for my current Exige. My wife and I have talked about getting another Triumph, MG, etc. in the future as a fun project/cruising car. All the pictures are making me sentimental as I only have one of me and my '74. I brought my Mk2 GT6 out of hibernation today and took her for a quick spin around the neighborhood. Boy it is nice to be back in the drivers set. Here is a quick video clip from today of her idling and getting some revs http://www.flickr.com/photos/27526720@N06/5569148919/in/set-72157622484963900 Also if you are interested, here are some photos of the car http://www.flickr.com/photos/27526720@N06/sets/72157622484963900/with/5569148919 The car needs some tlc. But I just need to get the carbs tuned and have it pass emissions testing and she'll be on the road.
Dredging up an old Triumph thread. I just finished the chassis and starting on the body of a 57 TR3A. So far it's been a great experience. There's a pretty big knowledge base and parts availability for these.
This is the only pictures I have with me. I dropped it off at the soda blasters Friday before heading to Atlanta for the Braves game tonight. When I land tomorrow I'll pick it up and get it to the spray booth. I'll post some shots of the frame tomorrow. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice! You are doing it RIGHT. Would love to see pics as you make progress. I've got a 73 midget that's getting the same treatment as soon as I get my garage/shop built.
That reminds me (goes with the thread title as well). 1957 Triumph TR3A TR3 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Had many over the years.... Own two TR6's now (third one coming in two weeks): Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you. Java Green car is a '76 with overdrive, hardtop, and dealer installed a/c (hardtop is off in this picture). '73 Pimento Red car is a two owner California car with overdrive and a hardtop that has never been off. They shake over bumps, leak oil, and have Lucas electrical system; but they sound great and are actually nice to drive. Not mine...but love the sound: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHvAz0mcjqE]TR6 Sound Erlebnis - YouTube[/ame]
