......this was one hell of a great season in F1 no matter how it turns out.

A lot of unusual winners (Button), some driver's stepping up to the plate (Massa), close racing between two championship contenders (MS and Alonso), and some new names no one expected (Kubica).

I was one of the people on this board two or three years ago that lamented the loss of excitment in F1, this despite the fact that I was a ardent tifosi and Ferrari fan. Yes I wanted to see Ferrari win the title every year but it was boring when the titles were walk overs.

This season reminded me of the late 80's early 90's and my hat's off to all the competitors of F1 this season who made it entertaining.

And lastly, no matter what happens tomorrow Shuey is the greatest racer of all time and keep in mind this statement comes from a life long Senna fan. My son's middle name is Ayrton and Senna will always be my favorite driver in all of motorsports.

But you simply can't argue statistics. MS has re-written the book in F1 and like Lance's Armostrong's multiple record winning tour titles, it's highly doubtful anyone will ever top Shuey's records in my lifetime or that of my son's.

    "Danke Shone Fur Alles Michael!"

I completely agree. Long live Schumacher.

Something will definitely be missing on the Australia starting grid next year.

Statistcally yes.............. but everyone has an opinion.

I tend to agree with Bernie. Yes it is all "if's and but's", but i still agree with him.

    Bernie critical of Michael

Oct.21 (GMM) As the paddock goes into admiration overdrive, Bernie Ecclestone has issued some gentle criticism at Michael Schumacher ahead of the retiring German's last race.

Although praising the 37-year-old's sixteen seasons of record-setting achievements in a contribution for 'Welt' newspaper, the F1 supremo disapproved of Schumacher's tendency to only go head-to-head with a lower calibre of team-mate.

"I wanted to see him at Ferrari with Kimi Raikkonen next season," Ecclestone, 75, said.

"With his ability and his fitness he would have been capable of doing that for at least one year."

Ecclestone also said that Schumacher was often not as 'accessible' to the media as some other racers, such as his insistence of doing only a single interview - for German television - before every grand prix.

Schumacher also 'lacked opponents', Bernie charged. "If Villeneuve had stayed in a good car," the Englishman continued, "or Mika (Hakkinen) had kept on going, who knows if he would have had dominated like he did."

If Babe Ruth had stayed a pitcher with the Red Sox......

You can't argue stats. I am not Schumacher fan in the sense that he is my favorite driver. Schumacher can never compare in my opinion to the sense of admiration and enthusiasm I have for Senna......

..... but at the end of the day "what ifs" are irrelevant.

You can't argue stats that are so far removed from what's normal.
