I used to go to AAA games once in awhile, but no longer: All AAA parks to use electronic strike zone in '23 https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/35434317/sources-all-aaa-parks-use-electronic-strike-zone-23
Doesn't bother me. No different than using instant replay now in games. If its a more reliable way to get a call right, I'm OK with it. Baseball has evolved over time. This is just another. I'm a little more concerned about the bag being larger than this. Could make stealing a lot easier. They lowered the pitching mound in the 60's because pitching had evolved to the point where few people would score. Is it better today? Yes. I'm OK with the new "extra inning" format. Its reality. People leave the stadium after the 12th. They have to get the kids home, go to work the next day, etc. So they leave frustrated. Now few games go more than 11 and the teams travel schedule isn't too badly effected. And relief staffs don't get worn out. Its fair for both and puts more tension in the game with a player on 2nd with no one out than the bases empty. Does it break tradition? Yes. Is it better? YES. IMO the NBA should raise the hoop a foot and take away the height advantage and make it more of a shooter's game. They've added 3 point plays, the 24 second clock, etc to increase scoring and speed up the game. Everything needs to move forward. Baseball still has its problems. But its trying to adjust. Getting balls and strikes correctly should not be a controversial issue in our technology driven world, no different than instant replay overturning an out at first base.
I also grew up with baseball….. little league + going to MLB games with my dad. Sad that as an entertainment product it hasn’t really kept up with the times. Stadiums seem to still fill up though? Especially in playoff time, healthy as ever there.
I hate baseball with a passion but I don't understand why this is a bad thing. It's one of the only sports I know of where key parts of the play is up to humans and human error. Everything else has begun changing and adapting.
Angel Hernández. Joe Buck. With clowns like these it’s no wonder some electronic oversight is coming into the game.
