They had a 5,3 Million Euro minus last year. The government is refusing the money for good reasons. Why should german tax payers support Ecclestone by pumping money through Hockenheim directly in his pockets? cinque
Massa's 'win' at SPA was the end for me. $100 mill fines, indifference to the closure of tracks at venues which were responsible of F1's very existence, the treatment of fans as if they were an annoyance and the annihilation of 'garagiste' teams, succeeded in killing my interest in 2009. Hopefully, the economy will spell the end for the disease F1 has become and another series will replace it at venues Bernie's avarice made redundant. All that is required are faster cars, few care about how they get that way, but lap times rule. The sooner F1 introduces another desert venue and costly technical device that adds nothing to the competition of the 'sport' , the quicker it will decay. All for it.
Support F1 or let it go Chapter 11? Another Detroit bail-out thread in the making? I'm still hoping some enterprising entrepreneur will start a new manufacturers' racing series at all the "abandoned" tracks.
Totally agree. Also Hockenheim was always on the brink of being bankrupt, Bernie's increasing demands, the global recession and a retired Schumacher led to all this. I'm not really morning the loss of Hockenheim, but the replacement of the Euro GPs (Germany, France, Britain, Austria, Holland, Sweden, San Marino) with in vitro fertilized places such as Shanghai, Singapore, Sepang, New Delhi, South Korea, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain. PS: Sorry Remy, no personal insult, but about the only connection Malaysia has to F1 racing is Petronas being a sponsor to the Sauber team. In my book that's not a good enough reason to drop a historic race in Europe.
Bingo. Bernie has to wake up to the fact that it is all about the manufacturers. Not the drivers, not the advertisers, not the hosts, and amazingly not the ... gasp... fans. The manufacturers ( teams ) provide the show that create the rest. I'm sure Bernie makes his biggest coin from TV rights and then the host venue but he has to respond to the REAL clients needs. His continued disrespect of their needs is what is going to hurt F1.
None taken. well, Petronas were sponsoring Sauber since 1997, i think, and it was former Prime Minister had this idea of hosting the F1 event when he attennded the a GP in Portugal. however, i rarely regard Sepang as being boring. if u remember a few years ago, MS made a really good comeback from the back, i think it was 2002, then of cos there's also the rain hit race back in 2001, and in 1999, how MS held Hakkinen back. over here, the attendance is really awesome every year. it's also much more cheaper than Singapore. trust me Andreas, there's tonnes of foreingers i meet here almost every year and they love the circuit. met one guy a few years back, and he's been travelling to 3 GPs overseas a year since 1976. a cool British chap.
The Mubadala Development Company also owned a 17% stake in Spyker, I'm not sure if that investment carried over or not.
Sounds like if one goes they both go... I agree that the new Hockenhiem and the new Nurburgring are both pale imitations of the tracks they replaced, but I am worried about F1's accelerated exit from Europe. I am a realist though - I know that no matter how much I complain I won't stop watching it! I think I've made the battered wife analogy before, but it still applies. I stick with F1 even though I know it doesn't respect me and all my friends tell me to leave. I just know it loves me deep down and one day it will change!
It's ridiculous how Bernie and Max argue that they move to the East because the grandstands in Europe are far from being crowded, while they're full in Asia. Didn't they notice that you pay an arm and a leg for a ticket over here and in China, the local government basically hires people to watch the race??!
I agree with the others that Bernie has left the door open for someone to come in and steal the prize. If Indy Car were to announce a 4cyl turbo engine configuration with multiple manufacturer involvement I'd be willing to turn off F1 all together and go see some races here. Laguna Seca, Road America, Watkins Glen and Sears Point are better tracks than what Bernie's been replacing the old ones with. The right formula on the right track is magic.
Thats because Bernie only cares how the show looks to the masses, he cares nothing for real racing fans. Hence the scripting.
Not arguing with you there. And personally I don't mind a Sepang GP. But what is getting ridiculous is the exodus from Europe into Asia and the Middle East. F1 should be a global sport and have races on all continents including North America and Africa. + a million! While it is sad to see what's happening to the sport, I will never join the folks who say it is time to leave F1. F1 is a good part of my life and I'll love it no matter what. In fact, if everybody else leaves, there will be more room for you and me to sit in the grandstands. And particularly leaving F1 for a lesser series makes about as much sense as trading your Ferrari for a Mercury because you expected more trunk space.
i see your point. i actually don't mind seeing circuits like Hockenheim, Nurburgring, Monaco, and Budapest being eliminated, provided Bernie and Co. can find circuits elsewhere around the world that is exciting, and provides lots of overtaking opportunities. Monaco is dead boring, unless it's raining. So is Budapest, etc. We had a great Hockenheim, till they bloody Tilkenised the circuit, in the aim of 'making better overtaking opprtunities'. why did they ever do that? sill doesn't make sense to me. those long straights would really favour reverse grids. Remember Rubens 2000? one of the best races. they replaced the Canadian GP, which is for me the most exciting every year, with **** street circuits like Singapore and we also have some crap around the contena bay in Valencia. i just think Bernie is doing all of this, because other countries are willing to pay for the amount he's asking. period.
You'd think that Adolf Moseley would want to save the German race at least. It's just a joke - put away the flamethrowers!
They cut the long straights in order to sell that land. That paid for the track's debts. She needs more of ze punishment! Image Unavailable, Please Login
