There should be some way of having the city/hotels/resteraunts etc help fund the race. We hear talk of how important the US race is to BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Etc. Can they pony up as well ? Bernie is not going to sell a F1 event for one dime less than he can squeeze out with so many other options available. They sabotaged the 05 race and had Michelin take the heat. Good riddance.
I see this as bad for everyone, from a financial, sporting, F1's future in the USA, and most important, for us the FAN! I don't know the all the facts, financial and political, but it's just SAD! It's something that shouldn't have happened, but two greedy men, just can't make enough money to satisfy themselves. They seem to want ALL the money, there is. Well, now they can have it...but somewhere else. Ciao...Paolo
I spent just 1 night in Indy, got there early saturday morning, then left after the race, and I spent less then $400. I was expecting to spend more, but there was nothing to spend it on, and nothing to do out side the track.
This is the way a lot of things work. Those with the power are only looking out for their own bottom line. Personally I could care less what place a race is being run when I watch it on TV. When it comes right down to it, possibly the new venues will make for more exciting racing anyway.
please stop beating this dead horse and put the blame where it belongs, with the fans. how many complainers went to the race. they blame bernie for wanting to make money. what, like they don't like making money? say what you will about bernie but he has kept f1 together for many years and kept f1 in the u.s. how much money do you think he made on the race in phoenix? blame tony george? all the womb to tombers cry for the local goverment to help. i don't blame george for not wanting to get in bed with politicans. it's his business, he can run it any way he damn well pleases. the fans in this country didn't realise what a bargain we were getting, even at twice the price. check ticket prices to any european race once. as for nothing to do besides the race; the race is the reason to be there. what else do you want. i've never been dissapointed by the level of extra curricular activites available. the only place you'll ever see another f1 race in this country will be at indy; and believe me, it'll cost a lot more.
