Where's the "flogging a dead horse card?" AFAIK, until the rules change, spoilers in titles will get you banned. Rightly so IMHO. However, and I haven't "tested" extensively, it does appear that "shrinking" the R&T "index" causes it to remain "closed" on future visits. I haven't cleared cookies etc and tried it, but as long as that's the case, I can deal with it - Just got to remember to close it before leaving..... Cheers, Ian
so, essentially any time around a race, which is pretty much all the time in season, i can't go into the F1 section because you want to spoil it for me? So i can't go in and post my comments about Honda pulling out of F1 between april and november? Sounds pretty selfish of you.
You can go into the F1 section anytime you want just don't wet yourself because you are not able to comprehend that there will be post about the race results. What is selfish is you expecting all of society to cater to you.
Bzzzzzz. Wrong answer. The correct answer is: THEY SEE THE SPOILER* ON THE THREAD TITLE ITSELF. Consolation bracket: *Can you define what a spoiler is?
I 100% understand someone taping the race and not wanting to see the results. I will go out with friends at night and sometimes first thing people say is don't tell me this or that yet. I 100% understand wanting to browse FerrariChat.com for other stuff before you have a chance to watch the tape. Because FerrariChat.com shows the most recent thread title on the main page that's why I support the No Spoiler rule and now looking into a hack so thread title for F1 forum only isn't displayed on main page. However, I find it hard to understand and I'm really holding back right now calling people idiots that will come browse within the F1 section before they watch a tape if not wanting to know the results. There is really nothing else to discus. I am trying to find a hack, but without it we will still have the no spoiler rule. If I do find a hack where titles are blocked on main page, then we will remove the no spoiler rule and stay the heck out of F1 subforum if you don't want to know the results. BTW, yes I also know there needs to be a hack keeping F1 titles off the New Post and Search functionality too.
On the Friday before the race I close the Racing & Tracking section, after I've watched the race I recorded (usually Sunday or Monday) I open the Racing & Tracking section. That means it's only closed over a weekend once every two weeks, no big deal. I'm not taking a chance on someone inadvertently spoiling it for me.
I'm going to throw throw BS card here! If you'd said "On the Friday before the race I *will* close...." then I'd be happy. But, until this "split" in threads the latest post always showed up - Nothing you could "close" last season IIRC..... Cheers, Ian
+ another 1000. The "issue" is the home page, and that's what "these clowns" (they called me one first!) simply don't seem to "get". IMHO. Once I *choose* to visit the F1 section, all bets are off. I just don't want to see spoilers from the F1 section on the home page.
He's back, I'm trying to find the mod that copied a bunch of posts so there were 15 inactive users that had more posts than PAP, about 4 B more posts. Wax denies it was him.
Sorry, I'm afraid I don't understand your post, When I close R&T, and go to the home page no thread titles are visible, new posts do not show.
Hilarious, ain't it? See, I found the "hack" a week or 2 ago during the "Pap Smear" & let Rob along with other mudderaters know. Oh, how we laughed. Rob said he was going to bed, as it had been a long day. Flash forward... Perhaps because of what some folks call "waxspeak", as of earlier today, Rob thought I did the post-count "hack" then... and didn't repair it. Given the time elapsed since, a temp ban was in order for mucking with Rob's database... just not for the messenger. Oh, how we laughed. With that rightfully out of his system, whoever the mudderater is has a window of opportunity to return post counts from 4 Billion to Zero+, without ban. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
i'm really trying to hold back right now calling people idiots who think there is nothing more to discuss in the F1 section than the current race. In fact, every other thread except the one about the current race is about something different. How is a thread about honda pulling out or about max or bernie or even a thread about a penalty in the last race about the current race? they aren't. and like i said, during the season, when they have a race almost every week, if you don't want to know the results of a race you haven't seen yet, you can't come in and see all the other threads because some idiot just HAS to put the results in his thread title? If max gets caught in a nazi whore party on sunday night, i can't come in here and talk about it because JK wants to put spoilers in his thread titles? wow. guess i just have to stay out of the section until i've seen the race. that makes sense rob, have less people visiting your forums. this discussion is really bizarre. what can be gained by putting spoilers in the thread title? and does that outweigh the value of not doing it?
Why have more rules when the current one is good. it's not that hard to not have a spoiler in the title. I can't believe this is debatable, it's only a simple courtesy to your fellow race fans.
some of the other forums does this : Australian GP ( adding year here is optional ). thats the title of the thread. every practice, qualifying, race, race results, and aftermath of the race results would be discussed here. in a way, it's a good thing. there's no spoiler, no messy threads about un important stuff, for example, notice how Fchat has has this sorta threads after a race weekend : Spa Practise**Spoilers** Spa Quali**Spoilers** Spa Raceday**Spoilers** and then, days when Timo Glock decides to take a bribe, , Timo Glock**Spoilers** so, everyone see what i mean? there's too much of threads after raceday. i wonder if we should adopt certain ways of other forums, like the whole weekend into 1 thread. thoughts?
It gets incredibly confusing if everything is packed in one thread, with 15 discussions mixed at the same time, it's hard not to get lost. I was an admin in Germany's largest computer games forum for some years, and we tried to create one big thread every time a new blockbuster game came out. It was hopeless. In the end, we decided to open up special forums only dedicated to that single game (like what Rob did now with the F1 section). The rest was pure handwork then - whenever two or more threads about the same topic were there, we merged them. Like "Timo Glock takes bribes!!!" and "Timo Glock, shoot yourself!!!!!", it would have to be merged by a moderator into one thread. That's the only way to keep the forum clean, but requires more than one or two moderators.
There won't be a post spoiling the race results because there is a rule against it. So, if you do it, you will get banned - just like you did before when you posted spoilers against the rules. You're railing on the rule because you're upset that you got banned for doing it before, and IMO because you're being too selfish to have consideration for your fellow f-chatters. It's so easy not to put spoilers in the thread title. It speaks volumes about users who insist on doing it anyway and just don't give a crap about their fellow f-chatters.
