What is up? Just got home from the the NY auto show. No official Ferrari Display. One privately owned black F430 on a turntable. I was expecting to see the people from Wide World of Cars, Ferrari of LI, or Ferrari of Central NJ. Nothing. No F cars. Lambo, Porsche, Bentley, Aston Martin, even Spyker wiht official displays. Anyone know what is up with this.

    No Porsche?!!

They usually have the best booths at the LA Auto Show. Not surprised about Ferrari, actually - they're planning the big F149 launch for this fall, and don't have many (any?) new cars to sell.

The Park Ave. showroom is better than anything that would have been at the autoshow anyway and its way less crowded and free!!

currently they have a 612, a 599 and a Scuderia on display. They also have the new Maseratti GT and the QP.

Actually, it's not unprecedented for Ferrari to be a "no-show" (LOL). Back in the 80's, they were there every year, but in the 90's, they stopped. I don't remember if there was an official explanation at the time. I guess they decide on a yearly basis whether it's worth their while. From what I've read so far, the NY show this year, in general, has been very low key and without a lot of pizzazz, as in past years.

Coming to the NY auto show as a boy with my dad is where I got my start for the love of cars. I just think Ferrari should show their cars to many people as possible. You never know the young boy or girl in that crowd may be a future customer or driver.

If all the cars are pre-sold several years in advance, what's the point of "advertising" them? You can't sell cars that you don't have to sell, and that's Ferrari's dilemma. Ferrari of Atlanta always has plenty of cars on the showroom floor, but they are nearly always pre-owned cars.

BTW, FoA usually does have a display of Ferraris, Maseratis and Aston Martins at the Atlanta Auto Show, and Motorcars of Georgia similarly has a few Lamborghinis and Lotuses to show. But Porsche has been absent from the Atlanta show for the last few years!

    Sorry, misread your post.

True. From an economic standpoint, there is no point.

From a brand perspective, though, Ferrari ought to show up. What I'd like to see is a Ferrari booth that shows some of the past and present cars, much as Porsche has done. As I mentioned above, you can't walk through a Porsche exhibit at a major show (LA, and probably NY although I haven't been to that one) without getting immersed in the history and significance. Ferrari almost makes it mandatory to get into the marque through a used Ferrari, so I think they'd benefit even more.

Porsche also had race cars on display. Ferrari should have vintage and modern race and street cars on display. Again, the point here is not to sell cars at the show. Ferrari needs no help selling cars. Display your hertiage, display your technology. Stir the emotions of the masses.

I think it's odd too....one guys opinion...it's not about having a backlog. It's about supporting the industry...few people need to go to any car show to decide they are buying a Ferrari.

Porsche has pulled the plug on attending Detroit, maybe it has decided NY is no longer worthy?

NY should have a subway and taxi show. They could showcase the latest in broken springs for the rear seats of Caprices.

I seem to recall hybrid Taxis being showcased at the NY Auto Show when I was there last year...couldn't find any broken springs though ;)

Not sure why they are not there this year, but in years past they did not participate because they would not give ferrari a good location in the show, I recall one year they wanted to put us in the basement and FNA said forget it, we can do other events to showcase the cars.

In all reality, Ferrari does not really have to show up. Besides NY not being a premier show, they have their allocation sold for the next two years and more people in line beyond that.

I personally think they should find a way to do these shows, this is how the younger crowd gets hooked...

    Regards, Jim

    Jim,

I agree. The show mostly for the Kids. Directly across from the white Lambo behind the camera was the only Ferrari - a black 430

Very disappointed not to see a Ferrari stand this year. In the past the Ferrari "living room" has been one of the highlights for my son and me. Obviously, if Ferrari is fully allocated it doesn't need to attend the show to take orders, but these shows are more about branding than sales. FWIW it was almost impossible to walk through the crowds around the Lambo stand - the Porsches looked lonely in comparison.

And what's with Maserati taking a pass? They do have cars to sell, and a new model in the Gran Sport.

And while I'm ranting ... no Alfa?
