The landlord with the deadbeat should be indicating as such on the tenant's credit report, which the new landlord should see when considering a new tenant.

What type of business threatens to call people out on an internet chat room for non-payment of debt? You deserve your money, but with all due respect I think you're WAY out of line on this one.

..............................................................what type of person buys a car for over $ 100K and trys to stiff the dealer for the remaining balance, or waits 12 months before finally sending the final payment ? People that are Way Out of Line .

Not justifying the behavior, at least as it was described here. But I still think Roy's threat to "out" them here was out of line.

I am glad it did not have to go that far..

I dis-agree with you...I want the old days back, where you could "honestly" tell people what your experiances with others where..

I get calls from other potential employeers..

"Joe smuck-a-wucky worked for you for three years, he put you down as a refrence, can you tell us about him please?"

NO..I mean after all he was late every day, came in half drunk on Brown bottle Monday, did not get along with any other workers..BUT dare I say a word or I get SUED!!

To MUCH BS in the world with "dont say anything"

I am ALL against bad mouthing somewhat for nothing or paying up if you wrong someone with no evidence or just ruining their lives for the BS of it..

BUT when you do something WRONG and it is documented..why shouldn't the world KNOW your not a good person to deal with..?

AND with your anology..that I was wrong to call out someone here...can you please explain then how it is OK if the shoe is on the other foot and someone calls me "Cats Exotics" out for stiffing them..What is the difference..??

This is very simple. If you money to someone then it should be paid as agreed unless there are underlying circumstances affecting the deal. Trying to collect from people who owe you money is very frustrating and sometimes requires uncoventional tactics. Well done Roy! The end result speaks for itself.

Guys, there is nothing illegal about calling some out online, at a club, in a restaurant, etc.
........as long as it is not a lie.

My god, listening to some of you guys is..........well there is no such thing as "personal information" anymore with the internet.

Many of the related laws a very narrow in scope. Landlords are highly regulated in this area as are debt collectors as a health care providers. Most others (like banks) are only covered via general contract laws (ie where agreed to terms prevent disclosure). Trying to turn specific protections into general protections doesn't fly.

The situation involving a regular consumer directly with the debt holder (absent a contract to the contrary) is not one of them.

Where did I state that it was ok for someone to bad mouth you online?

I've been around here long enough to know that one disagrees with you on this board at his own risk. Fair enough; you're mighty popular around here and probably with good reason. But I think that if you are faced with bad debt, which is an unfortunate fact of life for any business, there are ways to try and collect that remain within the realm of accepted business practices. Be lucky you're not in my industry, where a collection rate of 50% is considered phenomenal.

I just don't agree with the tactic you took. Doesn't mean I'm right. Heck, you ASKED for opinions in your original post. A couple of your minions here didn't like mine. I share your longing for the "old days" of telling it like it is. But I also long for a return to civil discourse.

This is what makes the Internet dangerous. In my business I never go on related forums because anything you say can be turned against you no matter how good a job you do, Roy knows this only too well. On the other hand, If you run an Internet business.... Roy does, then using a forum to collect money via threats may be an acceptable tool, just be prepared to always be defending yourself against the same tool used against you.

It depends very much on "what type" of information is disclosed, my friend. And, regardless, no one deserves to have their private affairs made public ----- we, as private citizens, small business owners, landlords, etc. are NOT the media ----- and the 1st Amendment does not protect us as much as we think.

You really think ALL of your personal info is out in the "internet ether" for the average Joe to peruse, huh.......A good friend of mine is an LPI (licensed private investigator), would you like me to have him run a background / credit / criminal record / IRS check on you ----- and post those results (regardless of good / bad content) here on F-chat???

    ......I didn't think so.....

Roy's customer is clearly "unethical" for not honoring his end of the contract (taking the facts, as stated by Roy, to be accurate). Roy's threatening to out the guy here on the forum is, well, subject to each individual's own interpretation of "ethical" ---- and, folks will no doubt disagree about that aspect. Had Roy actually gone through with the threat, that would have been a whole different matter entirely......and, in my view.....................well, who the hell cares about my view anyway :)?

LOL I for one DO CARE about your view and all others..come on guys..not long ago, you know me..I would have just DONE IT...but with age, wisdom and suggestions from you guys here..I have learned to hold just a bit longer..I( dont think I am perfect, far from it..but trying to get better each day.

I dont think, even though it is possible, all your crap should be laid out here..BUT I do think if you dont do something right...then you risk and should be ready to be "called out" or whatever negative stuff happens to you..in the old days it was called "Karma"...to dang tired of people getting away with crap and moving on to the next day with out taking resposability and their LUMPS...if they deserve it.

Roy, from reading what you have written, wasn't there a formal sales contract covering these transactions? Didn't the contract cover specific payment terms, penalties etc? Even if you have previous experience with the parties 200K is not chump change.

Roy - glad you got your money... if i ever do decide to join the other side ,i will purchase my L from you. Just to hear and read some of the posts here about you of taking cars back and now waiting 12 months for money - you are a stand up person and stand up business man. You would be the only person i would possibly every buy a car over the internet - it may not mean nothing to others , but to me its Aces in my book. Hope your bix continues to grow, you deserve it. God bless !

    Amen to that sentiment!

And, welcome to the "modern-day" United States ---- where every single deadbeat, miscreant, and sociopath has their rights over-protected, and the hands of everyone else are usually tied so tight that all we can do anymore is "bend over, and take it".

It really disgusts me the direction this aspect of American society has taken over the last 25 years, or so.

It seems no one is held accountable for anything anymore ---- and, everyone has an excuse (and "poor me" reason) that permits them to do whatever they want with no consequences.

I do empathize with you, Roy. It is VERY difficult to operate a small business of any kind these days ----- lots of headaches, few rewards.

I have defended three internet defamation cases in the last two years. In none of the cases did my client pay a dime to the plaintiff, but extricating themselves from the lawsuits was plenty expensive. Be governed accordingly.
