The PPI (discussion posted in another thread) I expected to have done never happened! I spent more time on the side of the road (broken down) waiting for a tow truck than I did actually driving the car. Who would of ever thought that could have happened? After that fiasco I decided not to buy that car.

A few other interesting events happened that I wanted to present to this group. I won't mention any names (except for ONE near the end of the thread) becuase I'm not trying to personally attack anybody or company. I want to raise an awareness.

Before making any travel arrangements to visit KC, I spoke about the car with the seller several times, talked to a couple of mechanics (one in KC and the other in CA), and another local party "aware" of the car. I asked the typical questions a person asks someone about a car, and always was told the car is fine, its not a concourse car and its been driven. I asked everybody if the car had appeared to have any body damage or if any body work had been done. I was always told no, other than some rock chips in the ususal places. With this information I figured the car given all the service history it had, I was fine to go off and see it.

During the course of looking at the car (saw it closer when it was on the tow truck) there were signs that the car had been completely re-painted, and not just the typical areas where you expect to see rock chip damage! I also noticed the rear deck lid did not have the screen that is attached to the bottom of the lid. I suppose it was taken off when the car was re-painted and never put back on again. I was really surprised the parties I "trusted" didn't tell me any of this. BOTH of these parties are not new to the Ferrari scene! This car has spent lots of time with a local mechanic and I'm surprised it wasn't "noticed". If it was known, nobody ever told me about it! I suppose that some thought some "dufus" from New Mexico was coming over to buy the car so therefore, he may not even "notice" the missing parts.

Besides my time and money being lost over this whole mess, not all was lost. I met some great folks and spent some quality time learning more about Ferraris from Jeff McCormack. Jeff's technical knowledge on Ferrari motors is amazing. I've spoken with many mechanics and Ferrari guys knowledgeable of the marque and there are few folks around like Jeff. You guys are very lucky in KC to have someone of that caliber.

Now I have tough job in trying to convince my wife buying another Ferrari is the right thing after what I experienced this past weekend!

    Richard,

I thought I was pretty honest in showing the car. Granted I did not know much about it and had only driven the car once prior. (The seller was out of town so I was doing him a favor by showing the car) I was not selling and had no personal interest in a buy or sell. I spent a few hours with you on Saturday and Sunday showing the car and I pointed out things that I was aware of.

I said that if you were happy with the appearance of the car, you would not be disappointed in the test drive. The car is very smooth and runs out nicely. I think you would agree that mechanically the car was very nice.

During the test drive we heard what sounded like belt slap. Was the timing belt coming apart? We did not know and shut the car down to avoid any damage. It turned out to be the accessory belt. Pretty simple fix, but it did ruin our test drive. It was just a bad luck that it occurred during the test drive.

It was nice meeting you. I enjoyed showing the car and our test drive. Kansas City is a great car town with some fantastic people. Had that alternator belt not broke, I think the outcome would have been different.

My gosh Jerry, you are NOT one of the two experts I was referrng to. I really appreciate the time you took to show me the car and spend the time you did helping out the seller. My apologies if it came out that way. You are right I met plenty of nice people in KC and you are one of them!

BTW, I need to find the posting (pic) of the incident on the Viper chat site!!
