Let me just say I'm not a fan of any replica, but the following are what I consider to be a good "exterior" rep. and bad "exterior rep. Lamborghini replicas arent bad if you put effort into them but there are to many of them that look like a carguys nightmare. I was considering building a Diablo replica on a full tube chassis when i get out of college. But a project like that can easly cost more than the orginal. Lamborghini replicas have come a long way from being fierobased to now full tube Diablo replica chassis that look just like the orginal chassis from the factory. this guys website pretty much shows you how to build your own lamborghini www.lambolounge.com here you get the best of the both worlds a fiero based and custom chassis rep. www.lambobuilder.com both cars replica or not look great.
Something like that. In most cases its either people can't afford a real one or they do not want to pay the high price of mantiance costs from a V-12 thus they use a Corvette V-8 or a BMW V-12 which is more reliable than the lambo V-12. In other cases its insurance costs for the orginal.
Wrong! It costs less to insure an original, if it's insured through Grundy or Hagerty or Leland West, etc.
I hardly know the insurance thing when it comes to supercars except that its killer, Costing more than the car payment itself. But I know for a replica depending if its based on a fiero or not will cheaper. If its fiero based you register it as a fiero and you will pay your insurance company the price of fiero insurance, that part i know. Im not sure about a custom chassis based kit. Hagerty and Grundy arent those collector car insurance companys?.
Only if you're under 25, or have a horrible driving record. Not if your insurance company knows what they are insuring. Lets say you put $40,000 into a fiero based replica Lambo... you think the insurance company is going to pay out $40,000 if your car gets totalled, when you've been paying them rates based on a Pontiac Fiero? Yes, they are collector car insurance companies. They are much cheaper than "standard" car companies, because they have lots of useage restrictions. I would think that most Lambos that are more than 10 yrs old are being insured through one of the collector car companies.
My insurance on a Testarossa is only $540.00 for 6 months full coverage, and maybe cheaper if Dave hooks me up!
540$ for 6months thats cheaper than my current insurance and i only have a caddy. Thanks for clearing that up i never would have thought that supercar insurance would be "affordable" i guess it depends.
Thats very freakin good. My Countach replica is about $460.00 for 6 months and my 05' stang is about $680 for 6 months. You're sitting nicely on that $540.00!
Here are a couple of pics of a Diablo replicar from last year's Vancouver Italian Car Show: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I always thought it was difficult to insure any replicas for the simple fact they are kits. Kit cars are basically scratch built autos with no U.S. DOT certification, hence the higher insurance risk. The loop hole was to register it as a Fiero & whatever frame / engine VIN # that was used.
That looks to real to be a replicar. I have seen that same color and model Diablo in person and thats a real one. Most kitcar companys will use the Diablo 30thavn body style with the 300ZX headlamps. I have never seen the normal Diablo being replicated.
I don't have any firsthand experience trying to insure kit cars, but this is what I understand. I know most of the classic car companies won't insure a Cobra replica, for instance.
I do not like "any" kits. Pure and simple. I do not care if it is a Cobra, or a Countach. Save your $$$ and buy the real thing. Go and purchase a Corvette, if the real thing is to large of an acquistion. There is nothing wrong with a Corvette. The new Z06 is nothing more than a real genuine supercar. I am not being sarcastic about the Corvette. I could never get anywhere near a 250 GTO. - Obviously. I would rather have the real donor car, vs an accurate replica that has used many real components. Leave the GTO (and others) alone; if you cannot afford the real car. I would rather have a used 2003 Z06 (a very good car), vs "any" replica/kit.
I'll second Ralph's post. To add to it, if someone is going to spend the time and effort on a project, it's much better to get the creative juices going and do something origional.
I agree with you but i dont at the same. Not everyone has the money where they can afford a read deal Lambo or Ferrari. I wouldnt buy a Corvette because i see atleast 5 of them eveyday and thats to common for me. I would rather spend that kind of money building a replica than buying just another car that im gurrentee to see another one driving on the same block. However If i was to settle down for something less i would go and get a Dodge Viper GTS blue with white stripes.
