My F1 transmission does not want to go into reverse from neutral when the car is hot. When it's cold it works no problem. It will go into reverse from 1st when it's hot, just not from neutral. Also, if you try to go into reverse from neutral when hot the indicator won't go to reverse but, if you rev the engine it wants to stall until you put it into neutral with both paddles even though the indicator says neutral all the time. When the car is off and the key is on it will go into reverse from neutral everytime. Any ideas?

Clutch on the way out possibly. First sign in a ferrari is the shifting probs. How many miles has the car done?

There are a few different threads related to this same issue. Seems to be a problem with 05 and 06 F1 transmissions. Is your car from either of those MYs?

It's an 04. I searched through the threads and have not found anything in regards to this issue with going into reverse.

A friend of mine had trouble getting into second when hot but fine for the first 20 miles. There is a special tool ferrari can use to reset the pin that changes the gears, he had to take it off and do it manually. Took him 6 tries. I would take it to someone who knows, perhaps it is something as resetting tension on a cable but come to think of it it sounds like the same problem he had.

Had the same issue on my 2007 F430............it was simply a faulty reverse button which is on the center console. It was changed and it's been ok ever since.

the slippage on the clutch just needs to be adjusted.

I have the same problem on a 2000 - 360 with 14,000 miles on the clutch replaced in 2004. Have not had a chance to take it into ferrari daeler in Orlando yet will in a couple of weeks. Just responding others having the same problem I think it might be the clutch needs replacing.

    Hi Cpais,

I own a 2002 360 spider and i have had EXACTLY the same problem since 14 months. I have done 7000 km and i live with it. I don't think it is related to the reverse button or the clutch wear (mine is 20% and i did a PIS adjusment in F dealer), but my mechanic told me most probably some air bubbles in the F1 transmission fluid. I've been told the transmission needs more power to engage reverse from neutral rather than from the first gear, so i assume that when hot, the lack of pressure due to air in circuit (or other reason?) does not allow the transmission to fully engage reverse from neutral (only partially which makes the engine stall when accelerating).
Please, let us know if you find anything out.

    Hi guys,

Been having exactly the same problem on a 2002 360 spider as well (clutch wear was at 14% a couple of months ago).

    Cheers

I had the same problem on my 05 430. The dealer said that the acuator screws needed to be alinged and bleed.
I was also told that if the problem continues it may be the thrust bearings
And on a 430 that can be north of 10k. I haven't had any problems since the first repair
But I thought I would share my experiance.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try and diagnose and figure this problem out so maybe I can help come up with a solution for everyone.

If you cannot engage reverse from neutral, engage 1st gear and then you should be able to engage reverse. I've had this problem for a while too. The clutch and throwout bearing are fine so I don't think that is the issue.

I had the same problem, dealer bleed the
actator screws still didn't fix it. We replaced
the actuator f1 lines and pump and now the car
is perfect. The repair was $16000 on a 2005 430
thank god the car was under warantee.

I'm with you-- sounds like you shouldn't get an F1 gearbox unless you consider $16K to be pocket change.

Yea I agree very expensive to repair but everything
on these cars are expensive. I owned a 3 pedal before this
car and now I would never go back.

I have a 2000 360 with 7000 miles on clutch and had it into Ferrari Central Fl. and they changed the F1 fluid and checked out clutch wear it was 50%. Could not find anything else wrong without taking the clutch out. They feal the pressure plate springs are getting weak
causing the problem. I question this opinion? I am going to live with it I just put in 1st then reverse and it works fine. I have no slipage in starting or when shifting I don't think it is a pressure plate problem.

I also had this problem a couple of times when I had my 360. My clutch was new. The solution for me was going from 1st to Reverse instead of Neutral to Reverse.
