An interesting trend is seeming to show up after the Monterey auctions. It seemed that many of the $400,000 and under cars sold at the auctions, but now it seems that the 330 GTS and the 246 GT discussed in current threads may not have actually sold. Are there other cars that looked as if they sold, not sell? Any comments?

Did I miss something? Why do you say the 246GT may not have sold?

My mistake! It appears as if the Dino did sell.

Next you'll be claiming that there are shills at the auctions.

was the 330 gts a 'no sale'? if the owner was the buyer, how high was the real bid?

does anyone know how this works? Say I have a friend "buy" my car at the auction, or I buy it myself. Do I then pay both buyers and sellers fees, which would be 10-15% of the value?

That would be a pretty expensive charade.

Misinformation again, this was a friend's car, under my license so I was the consignor technically, I signed all the paperwork. Not heard of not being paid for it. No consignor buy back on this one, sideliners. I was not even there.
    Gotta love that rumor mill.

Perhaps Tom is right and Maserati Mistrals are climbing. It is long overdue as they are lovely cars and claim to be the original, first car to employ the hatchback.

    Was it the 4.0Liter variety?

And the response back from Joe:

The car was being represented by Randy Simon & Peter Sweeney. I spoke to them before the auction about buying the car at Concorso. They preferred to sell it at "No Reserve" at the Russo Steele Auction on Saturday Evening. Here is a link for Russo Steele's results page on the car. http://www.russoandsteele.com/index.php?action=dsp_function&functionID=7&order_by=category&vehicle_year=&vehicle_make=&vehicle_model=MISTRAL&catID=10&Go=Go

Since I was at the RM auction and not the Russo Steele (which was across the street) I did not see the car cross the block. But I did speak to people that were there and they confirmed the hammer price of 32k before it was posted on Russo Steele.

So the car didn't change hands at 36k (including fees) but is reported as having done so. This is the same tactic that was used in the 80s to create a false perception of raising values for certain cars. Caveat Emptor - Let the buyer beware.

    Joe
