Head unit works, starts, etc. I *assume* it is the amp which is dead...
I guess I should look for a replacement amp; anyone knows of one that matches and does not add the Ferrari tax on it ?

    Thanks

Might be worth checking if it's just a fuse

There are two radio fuses behind the seats, but it sounds like yours are ok because your radio is working. I’ve read that there’s a fuse near or in the “amp” (low quality booster) which is under the dash (under the radio) in a leather cradle.

Everyone seems to recommend the amp by Scuderia Audio which is a dual Mosconi amp setup.

I know I know.... but for amount of times I turn the radio on... 1500 bucks.. a bit dear. I haven't used the radio in a while, but now that I know it's broken it bugs me.

Fuses are good, amp has a fuse on it; also good. Must be the amp that is dead.

Is yours a Bose or HiFi amp? There are repair services for the Bose 8800 amp since it’s shared with Maserati. Because they do break, don’t buy a used one just have yours repaired if Bose.

Did you confirm that power is getting to the amp fuse (from the wiring) with a voltmeter? Might just be a broken splice under the dash.

Here's a pinout for the harness on it:

Trying to figure out which is the power wire. There is a ground lug spliced in. Check the wiring for that, if visible. Standard Ferrari diagrams show connectors from wire side of connector.

yes, there is a repair service on Ebay for 275... I am debating dropping the whole lot and running a new head unit and wire it to the speakers directly. Save the 5 pounds too :)... But I don't like to be honest the look of the modern units in the older Ferraris... Looks amiss.

I opened it up and I think the final amps are gone, everything looks clean (have not measured anything yet). It is a TDA1562Q amp (4 channels) with 70w /4ohm per channel. Data sheet is pretty good, 0.5% distorsions at regular output... People say it is noisy, it's not; it has 10% THD at max power output, they can't keep up. Don't crank it up, it should sound pretty good (but it depends on what you give, crap in crap out).

Problem is I can't seem to find these small amps anywhere... maybe there are equivalents that people have sourced and do the repair service. .

Thanks, saw that on Aldous voice page. I am pretty sure it gets power but will measure none the less. Fuses are good. Easy to test, put contact on and measure; seems to be permanent powered not from head unit.

    Correct.

A signal from the head unit to pin 17 may still be needed to turn on the amp, but finding an applicable wiring diagram is difficult. Since it is a red wire, it's probably a voltage rather than an earth (but don't quote me on that)

Look for a voltage on pin 17 of the ASK amplifier connector. I'm sure it is a voltage now as the same pin on the head unit powers the radio antenna pre-amplifier. In some diagrams it's shown as a "switched" voltage. This can be confusing as ignition key voltages are also known as switched voltages.

I did find a blurry wiring diagram for the F430 (USA), but it may be for a later model car as the amp plug pinout is completely different.

So, there is voltage between the power line and ground (9 and 26) and there is also 12V positive when you turn on the headunit on pin 17. So clearly my amp is blown. I purchased a Poweracoustik thing to replace the unit, but now I *think* I also need an amp to drive the subs. Not sure if anyone has connected the "sub out" output to speakers directly (subwoofers between seats) so not sure how that will work.
The OEM amp used to drive the subs directly from speaker line level signal, there is no "sub in" if you look at the pinout...

That stock unit is a piece of junk with 10% distortion

Replacing it with the super amp is a bit like giving a mouse a cookie though. Then the speakers will sound good so you actually use the radio. Then you want the tweeter pods that sound even better and then you like the highs but need the scuderia sub. Then you get the speaker upgrade.....then...then...

I made a great discovery.... running the speakers directly from the head unit (no amp as it's dead) makes the sound sooo much better. And I am on stock speakers.
