Good evening friends, I spent this week lining up plane tickets for what I hoped would be a fine way to finish the 2006 F1 season (or close to it) at Spa. To my dismay, I read today that it has been cancelled. Is this indeed fact?
Could be... The news is all around the Belgian press. A Belgian former minister, Serge Kubla, claims to have received inside information that the race is off. Mainly because the paddock should be modernized while there isn't enough time left to do that, but also because there would be too much races in 2006, according to him. However, Bernie Ecclestone didn't confirm this news himself just yet and negotiations are rumoured to be still in the process... Typical Belgian situation... again... The whole story about the Belgian Grand Prix has really become a joke... We'll see what happens next... Some more info in English here...
No Spa this year but back in 2007. I say BRING BACK THE SOUTH AFRICAN GRAND PRIX!! The so-called WORLD championship is missing a whole continent. MARK
Its missing Antartica as well Atleast its not like American Baseball with 2 countries in a World Championship. Sad news that Spa is missing, one of the better tracks out there.
I agree - Spa was one of my favourites. But if they've mismanaged the process (and/or finances), I guess it's best that it doesn't happen. I have watched the MotoGP at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic on three occasions. Now THAT would make a wonderful addition to the Formula One circus!! MARK
Hi Jarda, And the Hungaroring is such a cr@p circuit!! I have been there to see F1 on two occasions, and it is the WORST for overtaking and the VERY WORST for spectators. I did not like it at all. Brno is an excellent spectator circuit....and there's a good South African restaurant in town!! The only one in the Czech Republic Hesky den, MARK
