Was trying to figure out something this weekend as we tried vainly to catch the splatter in one of those 'slides under the bed' storage bins.

What I really want is a ball valve faucet that threads in place of the OEM valve with a barb fitting for a hose in place of a spigot.

When I did my 308 I tried to put a length of hose on a funnel. The problem was the funnel was too big to fit in there. I then cut the bottom out of a plastic bottle and it fit great. Didn't hardly spill a drop!

Re-opening an old thread--the 87 328 (US) owner's manual shows the coolant drain in engine block on the forward side, driver's side--in other words, impossible to get to without pulling the engine!

I also see the bolt you have used, at the rear right of my engine block. Apparently this is also a coolant drain location, even though it's not mentioned in the OM..

    ??

I'm needing to move the coolant pipe to the WP to gain access to cambelt covers-installing new belts/tensioners.. I have the rear of the car jacked up. Seems like I would only need to drain from the engine block until it stops, then I should be able to swing the WP pipe downward without too much coolant flying out. Can anybody confirm this for me?

    Thanks,
    Greg

PS--never mind, just did the above procedure, drained from the rear block drain (about 2 gallons), then the pipe came off with not a drop!

    Update:

Well, there was about 1/2 gallon more coolant to capture, when I took the WP coolant pipe off. Barely any clearance to maneuver it out because of the close proximity to the side-saddle fuel tank. The coolant exited the forward end of the pipe when I released it from the forward hose clamp.

My next question: Now that I have that pipe off, if I raise the front of the car to bring it level with the rear (which is jacked up on stands), any reason I can't get most of the rest of the coolant from the front to drain back and out of the rearward pipe?

I'd like to get all the old coolant out to refresh the system, but I'd like to avoid digging into the front of the car to remove bits, if I can help it.

    Thanks,
    Greg

Me too. I tried a couple of products including a Fumoto valve but there wasn't enough clearance to thread the thing with the exhaust manifold just above the drain hole.

Wait a minute..... The 328 does NOT have a draincock valve like the 308 does --- weird ??? There is only a hex screw plug ??

Clever idea by the way :)
