I should know but I don't so I'll ask. My question relates to the headlight switch on the left side of the steering column that switches from high to low beam. When you pull this lever toward you is it suspposed to flash the high beams like when passing??? If so mine must not be working. Couldn't find anything in the OM or WSM. 2nd question when working in the engine compartment where are you getting a +12V hook up? I've been using the tail light wire but the lights have to be switched on. Need a hook up with constant +12v. The car is a 79 308. Thanks and happy New Year.

Thanks Pap. Should the headlights flash when lifting the switch lever??

I don't think the US cars had anything connected to the "pull" of the lever. Not sure about the Euro cars. On my '78 it didn't do anything, but I did wire it up so that it would flash my foglights (possibly thats what it did on the euro cars?).

On a carb 308, there are no lamps in the grille area.. so there is no flash function of any use.. but YES, the main beams do flash if you pull the lever... trouble is the lamps are down in the body so it's pointless...

QV had flash lamps in the grille... can be used as driving lamps too... but NOT fog lamps if original

For 12v in engine bay, alt is too hidden Pap... so use ign coil + (go to ballast resitor input, not coil itself ideally)

Side note... for some reason 246 flash their dipped beam... dunno why, just do, all others flash main beam.

No worries FF ;) I thought because of the vintage it might be easy to access the alternator than mine on the 348

Supply side of the ballast source is a good choice too :) Is it easy to access?

    Chuck,

There's nothing regarding headlight flashing in the owner's manual for my 1976 GTB and I see no modifications noted in my car's records, but my headlight switch works this way:

Position I: Rotating the knob away from you turns on the parking (running) lights. In this position, pulling back on the stalk turns on the headlights (low beams) and lifts the headlamp assemblies to flash. Releasing the stalk shuts off the headlights and the assemblies retract.
    Position II: Low beams
    Position III: High beams

    Happy New Year,
    Barry

Barry: Mine works the same way your does but it makes one wonder what is the purpose for this. Passing at night is when you want the flashing lights but you would have to have the parking light on while driving. I'm I missing something??
