Art - I honestly doubt you would be so quick to call it a War Crime and/or contact people in positions of power if soldiers did the exact same thing while a Democrat President was the Commander-in-Chief.

It's happened several times already. On one occasion, there was indiscriminate firing of automatic weapons into a crowd that killed over 50 Iraqi civilians. This was a while ago. Numerous women and children were killed. I believe it is being investigated, whatever that means.

Why argue with Art? All the pot he smoked during those love-ins in the 60's has permanently warped his brain. The US gov and the US military will forever be the administration and war machine of the Vietnam Era. No where in Art's scarred brain is there room for the possibility for US government evolution.

No point in arguing with him. May as well waste your breath trying to convince a NOW member that men are good people.

But, like Wax said, if this were under Clinton's watch, who Art thinks is the closest thing to God, all would be good.

Ah well. Save your breath, people.

That is so funny... Iraqis are lucky it is not the Russians pacifying them. Then the Russians would have simply stolen their car for stealing the wood. And yeah, Fallujah would have already been flattened with a hail of SCUDS and it's wells poisoned a long time ago.

Actually, we can shoot you for looting. And the person you are stealing from can too.

    So they got off light.

Remember the Rodnie King Riots? Oriental and Indian and even Black store owners used deadly force to protect their shops. None were charged.

Gome on guys if you get caught stealing in my country you do not loose your car, you get arrested and go through the court process. It is not right for any solider to play judge and jury and take away somebodies livelihood for any offense ... that is not what the soliders are there for.

They should have arrested him and taken him to the local law enforcement!

It is critical that we demonstrate that we actually do live by the law ... after all that is what we are trying to rid this country of, a leader that does not abide by any laws.

Thus what these soliders have done (unless it was staged) is just then same philosophy as Sadam ... ie. fnck you, I will take the law into my own hands.

This is how WE will loose this war!. Winning a war is not about winning the fight, but actually obtaining the desired result ... this sort of **** will not obtain that.

Do we not have any discipline in the US army ... as I am bloody sure this would not have happened by an Australian or New Zealand solider!

Damn!!!!!, we need to win and we are fncking up thanks to this ****. NOT HAPPY!, we have just created another terrorist ... fncken thank you NOT!

Define "looting". Different people, different country, different history. I didn't hear clear communication from anyone. The "Americans" speak english towards the men on the ground about as well I speak Russian. But they know for a fact that it was a case of looting? Even if it was, what did they take? A table or fire wood? How about the Soldiers that STEAL FROM SADAM'S PALACES! Tell me these pieces of sh*t soldiers aren't try to trip over their own d*cks! Men and womwn were found with gold and painting and whatever else trying to sneak it home to make a buck. These people have nothing and were not stealing. They were scavenging. Trying to survive. If you can't see it, lick my boots! Because I can get a gun and rule the block too! If you don't like it, you will be shot. Sound fair? Sound like order? Sound like a life you want to live?

It is quiet likely they are operating under Martial Law. And whos word do you take that that was even a taxie? If you got caught stealing and had anything done to you, what would you tell a reporter?

Good point, but I would not expect my car crushed ...

Anyway it is done now and the way we are going we have LOST this war IMO, as we have managed to stuff the most important part of it up, ie. change their attitudes to us.

Over and over we keep doing this ... it is critical that we poor the money in after the war and help these people grow so that they can see we are the good guys. Leaving them in the ****, does not do that ... and I believe the money has dried up ...

Why should we help them and provide the funds?

Think of it as cheap insurance ... bit of positive marketing if you like. While we rid them of a mad man, they need our help to ensure another does not take over. And it would be the same if the roles were reversed, and it sure makes me feel better about living my life of luxury ... ie. that children in these unlucky countries are finally going to get a chance.

Were was the "Geneva Convention" on 9/11 people ? I am describing the "face of the enemy" and not debating Iraqi involvement in 9/11 so save your rants for something else or I'll start bring up homicide bombers in Israel as a starter.

People who hide behind it should wake up and smell the napalm......

The world at large is not dealing with the kind of people that you think we are. The only objective in mortal combat is to be the victor. Remember what happened to the last group of people that decided suicide attacks were a good way to go ?

I don't know, maybe worse ... but the important point is that the US, Australian and British, etc. did not implement the punishment, thus we still look like the good guys. It is all about marketing that we are the good guys.

Oh my God I can not believe you think like that. 9/11 was implemented by a FEW mad man. That does not mean we should treat all their countrymen like they did this horrible act.

We need to show that we are above the retalliation BS, otherwise it will never end. Revenge is not/never the answer.

We need to demonstrate respect for all people and thus in doing this we will be respected ...

It's always a few madmen that are always responsible for "all" wars Pete. Only by treating their countrymen accordingly who condone their actions thru inaction or otherwise do you gain their respect.

Read your history. Eating gumdrops whilst dancing with unicorns under a rainbow in a field filled with yellow sunflowers always finishes in last place.

'Only by treating their countrymen accordingly do you gain their respect'.

Sorry REAL respect is never obtained by force. We should learn from our mistakes in history.

Look at WW1 and 2. The British and their forces did what they had to and applied with the conventions, and are thus not seen as war hungry fools. They have my respect.

While the US were of great help with resolving WW2, I have little respect for the US's ability to really win a war. They never have yet. Yes they win the fight (the easy part) but have yet to win the objective, which SHOULD BE to restore peace. Instead they leave the country as a hated nation.

You do only harm by treating women and children of any nationality as though they are 'mad men' ... and breed terrorists!

I realise this post is going to cause an argument, but I had to say what I believe and this is the view I have developed of the US's ability in war, and this unbelievable attitude that arming your country folk solves any problems ... IMO it doesn't, it simply forms a country which miss understands respect and believe it can be forced upon another person when faced with a gun in their face! REAL respect can only be earned.

I think I have said enough, and reading these views, worry for the future of my children :(

They weren't looting televsions and jewelry. They had some wooden sticks strapped to the top of their car.

    Wooden sticks...

I think the soldiers were nuts. It looks like it blew off some steam for them. Too bad the Iraqi has lost his "business" and probably talks sh$t to his entire family about the "evil" Americans.. Not worth a little R&R for the bad, potentially dangerous, PR.

    Pete.............

"Peace in our time" was not foolish ? You've lost sight of the objective.

Puhleeze......and no, there will be no flame war here because there's no point.

Real gentlemanly "tut tut cheerio mate" respect is not what is required here.......fear of force is the respect needed. It is also what will be needed for a long time because it is how they have been raised for 2000+ years. Expecting it to happen overnight is a dream.

Winning the "hearts and minds" went out with Vietnam where it didn't work.

I have to go out with Dri now....some wine tasting event....so I can't post any more tonight. Have a good morning in Oz.
