Hey all, I just replaced the clutch shaft bearings on my car and I am still hearing a noise coming from the bell housing. I took the bell housing off to have a look at the clutch and 3 of the 6 springs are really loose. What kind of noise will this make? When I put a stethoscope on the bell housing it sounded like someone had a hammer banging on 2 metal discs that were spinning against each other. I figured the metal noise was probably the throwout bearing ... should there be grease on the throwout bearing surface that rides against the pressure plate? The hammering noise is very faint without a stethoscope. I can hear it when I'm driving at certain rpm and load though ... almost feel it. When I push the clutch pedal in and rev the motor the sound goes away. I would've bet a lot that it was the clutch shaft bearing 'cause there was a huge (relatively) chunk missing out of it (pic in other thread I started). If these springs are the problem should I get one of my old clutches rebuilt? Do they put stiffer springs in or take them out? Any recommendations? I'll probably just buy another disc for now to get her on the road unless they have really fast turn around. This clutch wasn't that old which is why I'm thinking I should look for something more stout. Thanks, Sean
Doing a bit of research looks like if those springs are loose there is potential for a lot of banging. Hope that was the noise. Cheers
