Have a legal question. I received a noise citation for excessive noise (from a stereo) in my apartment. Apparently there was someone calling the cops on a lot of people in my building last night for having the music too loud. Anyway, on the citation the amount of the fine is not specified, so I have to appear before the district justice. Will this be something that will appear on my permanent record? or is it going to be just a fine? Btw this occurred in Pennsylvania. Thanks guys
If it's like all the other Pa citation laws, the DJ has a lot of leeway in what he or she can fine you. Probably a range of $50-1000 depending on what the policeman says at the hearing, if you have one. Lots of times they just send you a fine in the mail, which you can then appeal before the DJ if you're brave. If by permanent record do you mean will you have a criminal record when it's over? Dunno, don't think so. but, the guy who stopped by your apartment will sure remember you if he has to come back again, and the second fine will be healthier than the first. If you want the complete lowdown, PM me and I'll give you the name of a well versed criminal lawyer I know. DM DM
