I've got a 2007 BMW X5 that has a total of four power outlets(i.e. cigarette lighters). I'm not an electrical genius by any means and wonder what's going on. I have an ipod charger, a Sirius external radio, a Garmin Navigation system and a cell phone adapter that I use but only usually one at a time, maybe two in different outlets. First, I had the actual cigarette lighter fail, then when changing the fuse(took awhile to figure it out given the ridiculous symbols used) a second power outlet failed. Now, after replacing fuses and trying the other two none work out of the four. As best I can tell 2 20amp fuses run the 4 outlets and they both immediate burn out when I replace them and turn the car on.

For you electric gurus, what could be the cause? Could the initial fuse going out have also caused a short and now everything is haywire? I used to have the cigarette lighter burn out in my 2006 530 ixT from the sirius only but replacement was usually good for awhile and no other outlets were problematic.

I've been setting up a video system but hadn't even tapped into any power yet. The only thing I've done electrically is what I described and I've disconnected the ground to the battery when the car sat so a few weeks to make sure the battery wasn't killed. I'm a bit scared now to continue my video setup given this problem. Any insight into the problem? I've had the dealer look at it when the first outlet went out, the second one went out when the car was being worked on by them. I'm not sure they can figure it out.

    Jeff,

try posting your inquiry on BIMMERFEST.com or BIMMERBOARD.com, I have found alot of my issues on our 2001 740i Sport and a 2000 528i Sport Wagon on these sites.

I've tried X5world.com with no response. I'll try bimmerfest.com as I've posted there before but I don't expect much if any info. Thought maybe someone with electrical issue experience could help and this site is so much more technically helpful than any other I've experienced.
