I am looking to get a new daily driver to go along with the new F car, and have been looking for a small sport coupe with a MANUAL transmission. (I like shifting for myself) While they are "offered" for the small MB, BMW and Lexus coupes/sedans, they are no where to be found. The Dealers look at you like you are nuts if you WANT to shift for yourself. They then show you how wonderful the new "slaptoronomatic" shifter is.

My business has had me stuck in minivans and trucks for more than a decade, and I accept that these come with slushboxes, but I seem to recall that shifting was an option in cars in ths past.

Am I the only one in North America that wants to shift a car? Or, am I that old, and just get over it?

You're just about the only one that wants to shift for yourself, so get over it! LOL
I've gotta admit... I say if I ain't racing it, I don't want to have to shift it!
At my company they quit allowing management to order manual transmissions for their company cars because of resale, but now it sounds like that's changed again.

real sports cars have manual transmissions. But isn't it only 5% of cars sold in NA are now proper manual transmissions? The world is changing - I agree. And the number of options is shrinking. But there are some pretty cool cars out there now. In many ways a golden-age for sports cars, and sporty cars.

I've had the same thoughts a few times.

I will only drive a manual transmission car. My daily driver is a 6 speed M5 which I drive 20k+ miles per year in Atlanta traffic. You get used to shifting from 1st to 4th in heavy traffic or while drinking that morning Starbucks... My wife's new Mustang GT convertible is also a 5 speed as is my Boxer and Harley Fatboy. NEVER drive an automatic!

Any problems in selling or trading in a stick?
I once had a 2wd pickup that I thought that I was going to die with. (the market NEEDED 4wd)
I would hate to make that mistake again.

    But....
I would rather have a stick if I could, esp if in a little bimmer.
