I have the opportunity through a customer of my business to acquire this car and was looking for thoughts as i have never thought of a vehicle with a salvage title before

    1993 Acura NSX
    Yellow / Black
Salvage event was in 1998 when it had 29k miles on it
    Now has 71k miles
    Just passed smog
    Exterior 7.5/10
    Interior 9/10
PPI was clean, not current needs (Tires, Brakes, Suspension, Engine Compression, etc)
Has been modded but not to effect reliability (Exhaust, stereo, etc)
It comes with an extra set of factory rear quarter panels.

Sell price will be between 18-20k

I don't really need another car. I use my 360 as my weekend fun car and I have a 2012 Supercharged XJ Jag as a daily but the price here feels like as long as i am keeping it as a toy or a HDPE car i really can't lose

Am i missing something here that should really scare me off??

If it goes down the road in a straight line it should be no problem at that price.

At that price, it sounds like a great toy. I would go for it if it was offered to me.

That was my line of thinking. I've never driven one and will be going ot see it tomorrow. I figure if i like it I can toy around with it for a while and never be in the red on it. I assume it will be a nightmare to sell with the branded title but as long as i'm not looking for anything near market value it's ok. Guy seems like a very straight shooter. He bought it as a track car 8 years ago and claims he's tracked it 3 times. we will see.....

I had an NSX, it's a blast! For 18-20K - sounds really good. I would have a really good body shop inspect the frame to make sure there is nothing wrong with the chassis. The engine and rest of the stuff is relatively cheap (compared to Ferrari prices) to fix/replace if anything goes wrong.

I'm not an NSX guy but for 18-20 I think you'll do well. If it rolls straight not a bad idea at all!

Salvage title cars are in the upper 20's for good drivers with minor wear.

Consider doing the belts from age, not mileage. It's done at the 90K mile service, some do them sooner for age reasons. It's not difficult to do.

Look at the build year, not the model year for registration and ensure that it is not a 1992 and inside the transmission snap ring range. When that goes, it is an expensive repair relative to the value of the car. Google NSX snap ring and the NSX Prime link has it all.

It will be gutless below 5K RPM, the shifter is very short and almost perfect throw from the factory, short throws make it almost wrist movement in length.

The 5spd has longer gears and it will not feel as snappy as the 6spd and 3.2L motor, you almost never need 5th (or 6th) in either for that matter.

Don't be surprised if it is a black engine cover delete exposing the motor. Very popular thing to do. The glass can be damaged if you let the hatch drop without lowering it manually and pushing it to lock. The engine cover has a seal that prevents this from banging if you tried shutting it like a normal hood or trunk panel of a regular car.

    I bought a 95 NSX with a salvaged title.
It had 27k miles on it and I paid 30k for it.
Car was a dream and I had a ton of fun with it.
No one would have ever suspected it was a salvaged title.
I sold it 6 years later with for 30k with 47k miles on it.
I say go for it if it checks out

If you get this car please post your impressions of how it drives. I'm thinking I'd like to get one of these but have never driven one.

I've always liked the NSX. I came very close to getting one just before I got my Ferrari.

Bought a 1993 10 years ago. It was supercharged by the previous owner - a 60+ year old man. Now has over 160k miles and many mods on it. Still love driving it every day. It's a car I won't ever get rid of. People still roll up to stare and give me thumbs up wherever I go.

I bought it for $15,850. It worked out well. It drives great and the following has less than 4k miles on it

    - Clutch
    - Brakes
    -Tires
    -Clutch Cylinder
    -AC Compressor and Control Unit
    - Custom Installed Kenwood DDX System w/ bluetooth, Nav, etc
    - Comptech Headers and Exhaust
    -Coilover System

I need to swap the timing belt as it was last done in 2008. It drives straight as an arrow and is very tight. The interior is good but the seats and door panels have yellow accents so i am doing to dye it all black. back to original. The exterior paint when it was resprayed is good but not great. If it were a show car I'd have to repaint it but as a driver it's fine.

I drove it over 150 miles yesterday and really put it through it's paces and no issues at all.

How can i go wrong for 15.8k. I'm not sure how long i'll keep it but i can't see losing money on it.

Given the above what do you think it's worth if aggressively marketed post timing belt swap???

Yes, when you are posting scroll down a bit.
Find manage attachments and click on it.
Then click choose file and click it.
At that point you should be able to pick which file on your computer you wish to access.
    ....... like your photos.
After you click a file, look right and you will see an upload button.
Then you can hit your Ferrari chat link and you can pick submit reply ( this posts it)
Or preview post, so you can check it before to submit it.

The only negative thing I've ever heard about the NSX is that it eats rear tires. Other than that I hope you enjoy!
