I might also add that because of RHD, the gear lever (which was outside the bodywork along with the handbrake) was on the driver's right. Single seat race cars with manual changes have the gear lever on the driver's right to this day - it's a nice link to the past.
Heading south from Warwick this afternoon: olive green Maserati Kyalami coupe. A rare spot I as I don't think many came here! John

I had the most incredible experience following the yellow Ian Cocks' one for about 10 miles in Targa '01.
Cethana the last section. That's correct, neither he nor his co-driver saw me in the rearview. On the straights that beautiful supercharged straight eight blew me away and he was, sometimes,up on two wheels around the corners...unf**king believable watching it being driven as it was designed. At the finish we were nose to tail, about a foot off his date,at about 100MPH. Later in the day, lined up at the lunatic asylum at New Norfolk, they both came up to us to apologise for being tardy,I effectively said...when can we do that again! BTW were you there then when we all had to wait for ages at New Norfolk because one of the course cars had been rolled?
Yeah, I had an old Bentley "special" do that to me in Classic Adelaide - basically a bare chassis with a couple of seats - blisteringly fast in a straight line, and fish tailing all over the place in the corners. I went off in Riana that year, having cleaned Cethana, and seeing Jon Siddens in the ditch, which moved me up to second outright, behind Rex Broadbent in his RSR 2.7 (who later broke down). We were overtaking a Honda Integra (who refused to let us by in the start queue), and I misheard a call - whoops. That's what happens when you're tired, distracted, and challenging for the lead.
