First off, those that have talked to me here know I have no problem tearing into my Ferrari and have carried out 95% of the repairs and maintenance since I owned the car. That being said, I have never owned an automatic transmission car before this one, so when it took a crap, I was completely clueless.

The tranny stopped engaging about 80 miles from the house (this is my work car), so I got it towed back home to the tune of $217. I tried a couple more times and it would not engagne, or slam into gear with a high pitched grinding/buzzing noise. It was towed to a shop a few miles from the house, who now tells me they want to replace the transmission. This is a 2015 Ford Fusion with 108k (all highway with a handful of Atlanta traffic). The service manual does not call for a fluid change until 150k. 2 Ford dealerships have told me that they have never heard of a tranny going on on a 2nd Gen Fusion.

Here why I am skeptical-The car operates ok when cold, but when hot, even in Park or Neutral, the high pitched grinding/buzzing noise returns, usually with a bit of a "jolt" to the motor, when the rpms drop slightly, and it does go up with the rpm's. The noise does come from an area where the tranny and engine meet, but I couldn't pin point it. There has also been a recent recall of the shifter bushing by Ford. Vid below

My guess, torque converter. As they want to replace did they happen to actually mention why? Seems to me there should be a reason they want to replace it. What did they diagnose?

If you can't get an answer as to what they THINK is wrong with it, take it somewhere else.

That's another story altogether....I just went by the shop to get some stuff out of the car and I will bet any amount of money the car has not been touched. It was in the exact same place that it was yesterday when it was towed there. I only talked to the secretary that was yelling in between me and the mechanic. This is why I'm trying to figure out something else, I think the shop is full of ****.

Agreed on the torque converter. I'd be asking how they diagnosed the problem, with details.

Thanks all, after 4 days of nothing I had the car trailered back home. Neighbor has a lift and I found a 6k mile tranny..after buying so many Ferrari parts it was a shock to the system to find a low mile transmission for $600. Hopefully have the car done soon, been driving my Crossfire, want to get back in the world of a 4 cylinder an 87 octane for "unfun" transportation..
