I have a co-worker who has family coming to visit. They plan on spending 2 days in San Francisco. She asked me what non-touristy areas she should take them as her family members have already done the pier 39, fisherman's wharf, golden gate bride, etc.. during past visits. She wants to show them the "real" San Francisco.

I told her I would ask you fine gents in the SF area for your opinion. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

    Here are some more ideas:

The De Young Museum (and tower), GG park on Sunday when the street is closed, walk Chrissy field on a nice morning (or rent bikes and bike it from there to Sausilito and take the ferry back), Filbert Street steps from Coit Tower (walk to Taylor's for a burger), Lyon Street steps (and walk down broadway and see the most rediculous homes in the city) then maybe sidewalk lunch in Marina/Cow Hollow/Pac Heights (Rose's Cafe, Ella's, one of the many places on Chestnut), Cliff House for brunch (weather doesn't matter bc it's indoors but the view is still sweet), Belden Alley for outdoor lunch or dinner on a nice night, Marin Headlands for the view (to watch the sunrise is most spectacular, drive all the way up to the benchs at the top), drive down to silicon valley and check out the history (HP, Google, Yahoo, Sand Hill Road, Stanford, University Cafe, etc.). Drive down Hwy 1 thru halfmoon bay or up Hwy 1 thru Muir Woods (stop at Muir Beach overlook) and on to Stinson Beach (have lunch at Pelican Inn driving South from Stinson to Miur Beach). Pt Reyes lighthouse is pretty cool but a bit more of a drive.

If I think of more stuff I'll try to post, if you have any questions pls PM me, happy to help. These are all things that locals can be found doing on a random afternoon or a nice weekend.

Thank you for the replies. I have printed and forwarded them to her. If you have any more ideas keep them coming. Her family arrives in mid May.

    Thanks again.

Rent bikes and take the Larkspur Ferry to Marin. Ride from there over to Tiburon or even to Sausalito and then back on the ferry from Sausalito or over the Golden Gate Bridge. Nice trails for most of the way.

So I will be in SC SF area late in May and would like to see some non touristy, but photographable old Ferrari. Specifically I am doing research for a book on the superleggera construction. To that end I need some photos of cars built that way. I know this is a strange request but any help would be much appreciated.

Take the Ferry to Saus. or such. Have a nice meal and get to see the bay.

IF wanting to stay in the city, then ride the cable car to the barn and see that show. heck ride ALL the cable cars.

    Go to Sonoma :D

Be sure to drive through the Persideo and Baker Beach Area. Find the 'Warming Hut' and have a coco. Have lunch at "The Ramp" (dive bar on the water behind the BBall stadium). Grab breakfast at the Grove on Chestnut St. Best OJ in the city. Get a french press Kona coffee too. The DeYoung is a great idea as is the natural science museum if you have kids along. Yelp is a great resource for the most part.
