Hi all, is there any usual cause of the speedo failing on the car, are the sender units prone to failure? Al Cowan
Uses a cable, I think there are some gears involved too. Part # 101353 (this part supersedes other parts - 524541 ) Full description: ANGLE DRIVE (SPEEDO CABLE) Unit Price: £225.30 (GBP) From Ferrari Owner's site.
Hi, I had undone the 4 screws holding the insturment binnacle and pulled it forward. There was no cable attached at the back, just a few electrical wires. It also says Ellectronica or something on the gauge face, another reason I thought it was electronic. Could someone have converted to an electronic one from a 308 possibly. I am getting the car up on the ramps at the weekend for a service so will check for a sender or cable then! Al Cowan
Get the Part Number on the speedo when you get it apart. And I could be wrong, I'm just going by the parts book. DM
The cable should be attached by a snap clip to the rear of the instrument. Is it possible the clip departed and the cable pulled away when you pulled the instrument cluster out? If you don't care to rustle around behind the dash and can see the rear of the instrument, is there a hole where the cable would insert into? There may be the telltale sign of grease at/near the hole too.
Am working on the car tomorrow, have a set of carb kits to put in it and a sticking rear right hand brake to sort, Regards, Al Cowan
Both cars are cable, someone has put the speedo and tacho back to front. One car is on the left, the other is on the right, any idea which one is correct? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
From the parts book. And the one picture I have of a RHD dash shows the Speedo on the RIGHT. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's how my RHD arrived. Some drivers would rotate the dials 180 deg so that the numbers were not obscured by the steering wheel
My speedo clicks/needle ticks at low speeds then smooths out at high speeds and appears accurate. Any experince as to where the problem is. Z
Lube the flex cable. Pull loose at transmission and at speedometer. There are sets that let you blow lube thru. Can also just pull flex cable from jacket, clean, lube, run it back in. Did that to mine during engine rebuild when cable was just hanging there. No more bouncing at low speeds. John
thanks, too bad can't get astroglide to make multi use products, would save money and expand the bedroom uses. would bearing grease work? (... for the cable) Z
