This is not my car but a car I interrested to buy. Would you say that the the exhausts looks ok? I am a bit concerned that the inner pipe looks rusty, is that normal?
    The car is a 99 360 F1 27 000 miles.

Rust in pipes on F-cars not that common unfortunately.

Where is that car, Sweden? A car with that kind of mileage has been started a lot, creating moisture and eventually rust. The rest of the supposed stainless tail pipes look a little rusty too. How's the rest of the car, paint work, accidents, wear etc. I wouldn't let rusty inner tail pipes alone ruin a possible deal. The car has probably been driven in all kinds of weather.

When you think about the fact that it's also a 12 year old car that's not too bad. 27,000 miles over 12 years is an average of only around 2250 miles per year. I know for some people that's a good amount, though it IS a car that's meat to be driven :).

Maybe it salt corrosion as you seem to be from a Scandinavian origin. Before buying, I would ask to remove the engine bay left and right side panels and look carefully all the parts there including the condition of the body elements. Many engine bays look great but when you remove these side panels, you can discover a very different world.

    Good luck!

    That looks like salt damage.
I have the original exhaust for my car (15 years old).....and the stainless is a little dark but there is no rust of any kind.
No if I drove it in the winter salt, I'm sure it would look a mess as well.

The car is actually in Italy but I consider buying it, and taking it home to Sweden.
I have been down to look and drive it. Have never owned a Ferrari before so therefore I have a lot of questions, some perhaps a bit stupid but to me this is a big thing and a lot of
    savings.

I do use the search function on your excelent forum and have already learnt a lot of usefull
things to look for when buying and mantaining a 360.

The car is not in perfect condition but it has been regulary serviced and there dosent seem
to be anything major wrong with the car. I got some flashing on the transmission warning
light at one time when I drove it hard. I understand that it could be the oil pump for the
transmission, but from the forum that does not seem like a expensive fix.

My concern about the exhaust was that both the inner ends had rust on the inside
and I figured that perhaps there was something wrong with the valve, and it did not open
    as it should.

Any advice from you is most welcome.

Hard to tell from the angle the photograph was taken from but are the tips drooping a bit? They should be centred in the ope. I hanging low I think I read somewhere on F-Chat that it can be indicative of a failure of the main mount for the transmission.

I haven't encountered this personally but someone else might be able to elaborate.

Also, I repeat, the angle of the photograph makes it difficult to call.

p.s. The rust wouldn't bother me at all.

Have someone that knows the cars check it out for you. PPI(pre purchase inspection) If you don't really know what to look for yourself the small expense can save you thousands later. Even if you do sorta know what to look for it's still worth it.

Yes PPI. Pay for a pre purchase inspection by a mechanic or shop. I have never seen a warning light go on in my car while driving (except check engine light after a gas station attendent loosly closed the cap). I would not assume a warning light is something minor. Someone should read the code for you and even then - one of these cars can costs lots of money to get rid of gremlins because sometimes the only way to discover what is wrong is to replace things and the parts are stupid expensive.

There is a comprehensive check list for the 360 posted as a sticky at the top if the 360/430 forum. I wish I had it when I bought. In my humble opinion it is TOO comprehensive, but you can read it and apply your own judgment to each item. After you buy one you get an expensive education on what exactly to look for in one of these cars. I was actually lucky in that there was very little wrong with my car but if I walk into a dealer today, I look at a 360 with totally different eyes. Look at theose saggy bolsters and the frayed seat piping! Woah, someone actually used the window up/down buttons, they are a wreck. This one was washed over and over by an amature, there are pronounced swirels.

I don't think exhaust tips would would worry me a lot, but you have got to get a picture of the car. Service records? carfax? Signs of bodywork ( a pro can tell, you might not),

If that exhaust is the original unit that has racked up all of those 27,000 miles, then that amount of rust, accumulated from the many cycles of normal heat & normal condensation, is not unreasonable ---- exhausts (even stainless steel ones) don't last forever, especially on cars that are usually driven for short distances, and see a lot of cold start-ups and rapid cool-downs (e.g., most Ferrari's ;)).

Rust on an exhaust will also always be more extensive on a car that has often been exposed to salt contamination ---- either from driving on winter roads or living near "Mediterranean sea breezes" (i.e., salty air near salty water).

On the other hand, if you find out that system has only seen, say 10,000 or fewer miles in its lifetime, and all of which were only on that particular car ---- I'd be looking awfully close at the health and operating condition of that car's engine and emissions systems ;););).
