Anyone out there expierenced a 348 with the twin turbo rebuild? I'm curious how it runs, I remember reading a comment that said it doesn't sound like a ferrari anymore. Norwood clames it will out perform 355's and 360's. I'm just wondering if it is real or wishfull thinking. Indy

Well I have twin turbo experience, though not with a ferrari. I had a 993TT and the power can be quite overwhelming around turns. A turboed 348 will absolutely smoke a 355 or 360. My F355 is my first f-car. My impression is that f-cars are more of an adrenaline inducing finesse vehicle and not high power monsters. Of course for those who can afford a super ferrari that all changes....

I worked at Norwood for a few years. The 348 turbo upgrade is a VERY nice addition to the 348. I highly recommend it. As for it not sounding like a Ferrari... I don't agree with that. That's like saying a 208 turbo, or a 288 GTO, or a F40 does not sound like a Ferrari. The sound depends on the setup of the exhaust.

I know there's a 348 turbo on e-bay.. That's probably why you posted this thread. You should ask the owner what he thinks of the sound.

    Cheers,
    James Gardner

You know I was actually hoping he would respond to this thread. It is a pretty costly upgrade, almost 50K. I'm considering it, and agree Norwood is truly a quality outfit, and I actually have discussed the upgrade at length with them. They do more than just rebuild the engine, they upgrade the ignition, fuel injection, and more. The thing runs great now, but having a super Ferrari kinda of apeals to me. If i stumble into some unexpected cash I may do it, but who know. Indy

It won't sound like other 348s because the turbos muffle the sound coming out of the exhaust. A common problem when comparing Porsche TTs to the lesser NA cars. TTs are much quieter and need a more open exhaust.

Compared to a 348, 355, or 360 even. The Norwood upgrade is very high quality stuff.
I've owned the car for a few years. Yes, tuned properly, it will smoke a 360 in most areas of acceleration; for the handling issue, you'll have to upgrade the suspension as well. Mine is currently for sale. PM me if you're serious.

When you said tunes properly, do you mean, by turning up the boost enough to get the performance you desire?

You know I was actually looking at your car right before I purchased mine. Your agent kept listing your car with an unknown reserve price. I and many other pontential buyers, will refuse to particapate in these types of listings. As I choose not to do. I have successufully sold every single top end vechile I've needed to, always recieved what I wanted for it also. I just always start the listing with the lowest price I will take for the car. I never list a misterious reserve price. It really does piss real buyers off bigtime. For me to the point of not even bothering to bid. It's sad, I might have actually bought your car. Please just consider this as feed back for future listings.

What I would really like to know is how it sounds, and how cool it runs, does it run on the hot side, etc.

Bob told me it would blow a viper right in the weeds using 25lbs of boost, but he also said the total engine life would be about 25 miles.

I was also told if you leave the boost set at 15LBS, the car will run rings around 355's and 360's, and live a nice long life.

I'm also interested in what you did for maintenance, like who you got to service it?

    Thanks for your time Indy

uh, I guess I mean, frustration.
No need to be upset, sorry Colin didn't meet your needs. He really is a nice person.
    The car doesn't run hot.
It sounds great and is a blast to drive as well.

Thanks. I'm actually considering the upgrade in comming years. But not anytime soon, unless I throw a belt. Yea, "Frustration" once it had become clear what you were asking for it, I probably would have moved on it. It is really a super deal for a real super Ferrari. Good Luck Indy
