What short note should I write in the retirement card of a co-worker who is an amateur pilot? I know that he is planning to enjoy his retirement freedom flying his Cherokee 6 and I want to give a hat tip to that.

I thought about "blue skies" or "check 6" but I'm not a pilot, so I feel like there's a better phrase I might not be able to come up with on my own.

    Thanks!

Don't call him an "amateur" pilot, it's private pilot.

    A couple of picks:

    "Keep the shiny side up"

"Takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory"

How about, " Wishing you blue skies and tailwinds'.

Yin, thanks for that, I was trying to make clear that he was not retiring from a career as a professional pilot.

I knew it didn't look right when I typed it, but I was in a hurry to get ideas before the card got to my desk.

Bob, I used your suggestion! I had an idea you would know what to say.

    Thanks to both of you.

I liked this one too... he was just telling me about having to leave his plane in Chicago and fly commercial due to weather.

"To go up, pull back. To go down, pull back all the way."

    He'll get it.

"My ex-wife said it was her - or the plane."

My Dad likes to say "Fly low and slow and make all flat turns."
It's funny because if you are low, you don't want to be slow, and if you are slow, you don't want to make a flat turn. However if you are really LOW, you should make a flat turn to clear your wing.
