Ok, I've had my 355 for barely a weekend and I decide to let my wife have a turn at the wheel today.

I back the car out of the garage and down the reasonably steep driveway onto the street. We head out, she has a lot of fun.

As we pull back into our neighborhood she takes the entry kind of fast (faster than I would) and I start the lecture of "You have to remember at all times *this car is low, low, low*...". She then makes a smart alecky comment about how "I made it, didn't I...besides, it has those 'bash plates'". I shake my head in disbelief.

Final turn onto our street she does it with a lot more respect for what I have just said...and then makes a bee-line for the driveway. Before my brain can process what is happening and insist on her pulling up at the curb to let me finish the job - she is nudging her way up the drive. She attacks the drive pretty much head on and at the steepest, most awkward part of the incline. Yep, you guessed it - she puts a nice gouge on the underside of the front right fender.

Sunova*****!! Thank god it is completely invisible unless you get under the car but WTF!!! We just got done talking about this 10 seconds ago and BAM!

Hey, sorry for the vent but I had to get that off my chest. Hopefully she has some great way to make this up to me. Hehe.

She was sort of speechless / mortified actually. I pointed out the line she should take in the future and she just muttered something about how she'll never drive it again.

What's an appropriate 'ask' in compensation of this unholy act?

Here's my take on this issue: If we try to convince (as in prodding) our significant other to drive our "special" car, we're already in a compromised position. But if she really wants to drive it, we talk about "how low the car is and how to angle into a driveway - how to allow for the width of the body, etc".

My ex could blow the doors off many a challenger on Van Nuys Blvd. She knew to drive carefully in a school zone and NEVER rode her brakes in the hills. Afterwards, she would slip our spaceship backwards into the garage without a whimper or a scrape.

Education, communication, love and respect is the key :)

    Cheers, Hank

It sounds like she was indeed being more cautious after the lecture, right? Hopefully she has learned her lesson & will be more observant at the driveway from now on. Nothing to end a marriage over :)

But Nate, let's make sure that, in an emergency, when two pedals are all you may have available at that moment, she can step up to the plate - - and save your sorry A$$ :)

God willing, that won't happen :)

    Cheers, Hank

It is your fault because you commented negatively on her driving. It has taking me a while to learn but unless death is imminent you never comment on your wife's driving.

If you really want to drive the point home get it fixed. The hassle and cost of repair will scare her off wanting to drive again. You don't want that big o'l scrape on there anyway do you, even if you can't see it?

Are we sharing our joys of our life? - - or is this about "it's a guy thing, and you chicks don't get it". They, the girls, can take the kids to school, make a great dinner. Many can fly a plane, drive a boat and some, can help keep a spaceship in a proper orbit and, if that's not enough, there's even more !!! :)

How many times have we read about the useless and wasteful damage to the many "high end exotics" that had not one woman contributing to that event???

    Whatever...........

Boy this touched a nerve. Here are my auto adventures with my wife.

    1. Tried to teacher how to drive a stick in my old Z3 and she killed the clutch.

    2. Loaned her my truck. It came back with a huge dent on the side 2'X2'. Apparently, a ladder jumped out of another truck and got in her way just as she was driving past it.

    3. Asked for her help to remove my hard top on my S54 M Roadster and she dropped it on the car.

    4. Drove up next to her at a stop light in my RS4 and as we pulled off she slammed right into me, leaving a sizeable dent.

    5. Loaned her my motorcycle (she knows how to ride one) for a modeling shoot and she droped it off my truck.

No, I have NEVER let her drive my Ferrari and she almost killed my Bentley (all that power took her by surprise).

    Yikes...

I guess there are those exceptions - having nothing to do with "loving her" :)

You know, in two decades of internet forums I've read a lot of bragging, showing off threads, but this has got to be the worst attempt at disguising a "I'M GETTING A BEEJ TONIGHT" thread that I have ever seen. Weak man, just weak.
