I have spent a couple of months detailing my Dino and it has turned out really well. I have cleaned and renovate allover, tidied up the boots and the engine bay and generally made the mechanics look great. I have also fitted new hoses, rubbers, clamps, new bumpers and and so on as needed.

I now have a very genuine, four owner 73 246GT. However it need a new re-trim as one of POs trimmed the dash in tan leather, changed the colour and so on. This is fine, a re-trim will eventually happen.

The paint colour has also been changed from red -> black -> blue and it will eventually be changed again (brain says back to original red but heart says yellow).

Anyway my question is in two parts:

    1) there are a lot of worn looking chrome parts such as light rims, door handles, badges etc. Shall I replace with new reproductions or keep the well worn ones I have?

    2) Should I revert back to the original red/black vinyl spec or go for what I fancy?

I'd say retrim and repaint it to suit your own taste but keep to the interior and exterior colours that were available from the factory. As for worn chrome trim items I'd keep the original parts as much as possible and rechrome them if necessay. I've left mine as they were. They're not pristine but not shabby either and just give the car the correct patina of age IMHO.

Here is my car in the scheme yours was originally supplied in - red with black vinyl. It may help you decide if you want to revert back to the original look.

    Simon,

I know $h!* happens, but do you plan on keeping the Dino or do you think you may switch it out over time? If you think it may be with you for the long run, follow your heart and do want you want. Of course red looks great, but there's not a shortage of them in the world.

    All the best,

    1. Rechrome! For patina reasons, as mentioned above.

    2. Go for what you fancy, but only with period colors.

2a. Personal opinion: The world most definitely does not need another red Dino.

    Cheers!
