neither of them were old and both to Cancer.real loss to people of our Gen. Real regret of mine was never seeing the late Billy Thorpe live.
i wanted to see him and the Aztecs in the 90s I think at the Melbourne showgrounds? There was concert of some of the great 60s/70s bands. My favourite "Oop poo da doo"
Get out and enjoy life, don't put off what you can do today.. friends, family, fun things. My (older) sister used to go out with one of the Chisel guys "back in the day". I remember as kid once annoyed I couldn't watch my Sat morning cartoons because the BF and whole band (pre chisel) had crashed on floor of TV room where we were on holiday for somewhere to sleep.. It's a long hard road to get to success!
and its a long way to the shop if ya wanna sausage roll... I'm sadderer about Sussanah York falling off the perch...liked her :-(
56 is very young. Listened to those songs many a time and enjoyed. They don't seem to make music like they used to.
when she was out here my parents met her for a movie called Eliza Fraser, they have a few antiques from the movie including a Victorian card table.
I knew Steve AND I worked with Harvey James (who died the same day as Steve), when I was in the Richard Clapton band around 1984. Being in the same industry and all of us being in fairly well know bands......Harvey was in Sherbet, we knew each other. As for Aztecs being LOUD, well I would say that we were the L-O-U-D-E-S-T (I'm shouting). The Aztecs at their most popular stage had bands like "COLD CHISEL " AND AC/DC support us at gigs. these were the days that the drummer of AC/DC "Phil Rudd" had a Daytona and a 512 Boxer. (not sure what happened to those cars.) And Jimmy BArnes had a 246. Before Billy died, he was playing at a pub in Frankston and I took him for a run in the F40. Scared the pants off him....but he loved it. so whats the moral of the story.........enjoy your life while you can. If you want to get bogged down in stress and worrying about what the person next to you is doing....so be it, but that's not for me. The frustration of NOT playing full time, in a band, has been channeled into my cars. I mean let's face it.......I can go to my grave with a massive smile on my face because I've played in one of the biggest bands in the country, toured the world, met some really famous peolpe.......louis armstrong, Nat king cole, Cher, Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd the Beatles etc. etc. and even asked if I wanted to join "WINGS". Partied for 30 years and owned 6 Ferrari's including an LM. Mate it doesn't get better than that. Oh except maybe for being the Vic Ferrari club treasurer for 15 years and meeting AIRCON lol
phew...for a terrible moment there, I thought you were going to leave me out. I should have had more faith.
Phil Rudd bought that Daytona from the same guy I later bought my Dino and Boxer. He paid about $60k for it and allegedely drove off in it with his heavily pregnant French girlfriend smoking a joint. Think that car might be OS now
the usual 'I've had a tough life and read too many Hallmark cards' I attend Cisco Networkers every year and they have a guest speaker each day and on the last day they normally have the "interesting" keynote speaker, one year it was one of the guys who started Apple with Jobs and when they got to a point where it was going public Jobs offered him 10,000 shares or payment for time spent. He thought the company was going nowhere so he took the money and left, he said at the start of the speech he was the dumbest person in the room, .... he proved it
I was invited to a very special National Australia Bank lunch years ago. There was about 12 very wealthy customers of the bank and we all were asked to give a little speech on what we had acheived etc. etc. The first 11 guys got up and told how they had developed massive buildings and had about 25 properties etc. etc. I got up at the end and said "Well I played in a rock band for 30 years and I've got 6 ferraris and basically I've just partied for most of my life". They all cheered. I've met some very rich "unhappy" people in my travels. Most of my friends (who are musicians), have nothing. The amount of guys in this country who have played in bands like "Daddy Cool", "Skyhooks", "Dragon" etc etc....that have only basically the clothes on their backs....is amazing. But there all pretty happy and are still playing for around $100 a night. Speaking of playing....I was offered a gig at the "GO SHOW" concert at the palais in Melbourne in MArch. I think I might do it........just for fun. (I might get AIRCON to be my roadie) Here's a funny story for you guys. Ever heard of "ALBERT LEE". He's one of the planets great guitarists. Played with all sorts of world class artists and was in his own band called "Head, hands and feet". He's english and was touring Australia with a country artist...."Vince Gill" (no relation). I went on a Ferrari breakfast run ......about 20 years ago...I think JM was there and Max Lewis anyway, there was this guest from overseas there. A long haired hippy looking guy , from england who was a member of the UK Ferrari club and he owned a 250. Anyway I was talking to him about Ferraris etc. etc. for most of the day. I only realised 2 days later (after I had been told his name) that I had been talking to "ALBERT LEE". He came along as a guest and no one mentioned his name. Albert lee......fall's into the catagory of great guitarists like, Jeff BEck, david Gilmour, james burton, peter frampton etc. etc. One of the worlds GREAT guitaists. true story.
