Well about a month after purchasing a great car (1988 Euro Mondial 3.2 coupe), from a great owner/caretaker (Wade), I received my plate from DMV and this weekend took the car to my brother in laws to put it on his lift and see what will be needed to make this great car, better. Once we got it on the lift we were happily surprised to see the only issue was some surface rust, which was sanded off, and painted. Everything else looked really good. No oil around either the oil pan or gearbox oil pan. Took off cover to see the underside by the fuel pump and filter and everything was clean. New radiator hoses were run through previously and looked good. So with that we decided to look into the little pain in the butt issues it had to make the conveniences of the car optimal. The biggest problem was the throttle was sticking. It made the car hard to get going when you first started out and it would require a bit of pressure on the pedal to get moving. We discovered that there was slack in the cable. After several attempts to get the adjustments correct, the throttle is smooth, the car has immediate response when you hit the gas. The change was like night and day. The other small issues we resolved were the antenna didn't work properly. You had to pull it up manually, but it would retract with the button. Also sometimes the gas cap button wouldn't work. So we took off the panel and did an electrical check on the lines. There was power from the line and the switches were good. So we cleaned up the contacts and put some NoLox on them and boom, they were working! We worked them each about 50 times and they worked properly every time. The last thing we worked on was the driver mirror switch. The passenger side worked but not the drivers side. We noticed the motor in the mirror on the drivers side was buzzing like it was moving but the mirror wasn't moving. So instead of taking off the panel to get to the switch, we sprayed air behind it and it started moving. We tested it in all directions for a few minutes and it now seems good. I have an extra switch if it starts to fail, but hopefully it will not. So with these little issues resolved, our next project is the belts and tensioners. When we do that I am going to take the ac out and system check the whole thing. Need to get that fixed. Will post pics as the belts and ac are being done.
