Yesterday when driving my 328 GTS, (Windsor, N/W of Sydney) got pulled over for no number plate on the front. Officer stated that as there were no holes in my car he doubted thay I had ever had one on. (he was right) but I told him it had been cable tied on to the lower grille. I was told there was an option of two fines, one being $375.00 and loss of 3 points. second was $79.00 fine, a defect, although no need to take car for inspection, just pay the fine and replace the plate. Also informed that NSW Police are clamping down on common practice of not having a front plate. PS. Drove around all the rest of the day, saw 6 more Police cars, and not even got a second glance from any! Cheers, Ross
Ross, I got booked for no front plate on my 308 in 1985! Nothing new about the law, only the cost has gone up. I know someone who had the plate screwed on the underside of the spoiler, facing straight down. He was booked, then successfully appealed the fine on the argument that the law says the plate has to be affixed, but nothing about visible. I expect they've since closed that loophole. The poms put up with it and their plates are much bigger than ours, so I don't understand the problem!
Ross, you need to be a bit careful, especially if you have a "mate" issuing the pink slips. I had that happen some years ago - got pinged for no front plate, on a Lancia (plate stuffed up the airflow to the oil cooler) - the Rozzers were interested in who was doing the pink slips - which was a mate of mine. To cut a long story short, I had to give them a stat declaration to the effect that I replaced the plate at rego time, and removed it later, to avoid my mate being prosecuted. The fine wasn't too bad in those days - a hundred bucks or so. Could have got ugly though... Just thought I'd add that had a bit of a cruise in the 456 yesterday to Palm Beach - place was crawling with coppers... At least 6 on Mona Vale Road & Pittwater Road - all mobile radar, some unmarked.
Ross, join the club ... got done for $300 and 3 points Feb 06 at Tweed Heads for no front numberplate (it was held on by double-sided tape which gave out - honest injun ) Since when is there a bloody optional $79 fine ??!!! Yes please, I'll take two and keep my points !!
you know they hang around in 3s Ian, one reads, one writes, and the other talks about his 2 smart mates
Hi Ross, You weren't by any chance in the Dural area yesterday were you? I saw a red 328 like mine with red plate. ***69V Coincidently, I got pulled over about 3 months ago in Dural for having a home made front plate. I bought the car like that but did have the RTA issued plate in the boot. The copper let me off with a warning but he said $318.00 plus 3 points if he sees me again without the RTA front plate. I put the real one on within 1 hour of him giving me the warning so it's all good now. Bob.
Just thought I'd add that had a bit of a cruise in the 456 yesterday to Palm Beach - place was crawling with coppers... At least 6 on Mona Vale Road & Pittwater Road - all mobile radar, some unmarked. My Sis lives in Avalon and just about every time I go visit I get a ticket! Mainly on the bridge near Manley going to the Airport, as I still have a pom licence the tickets come from Singapore??!!
I did, but my BIL the ex-cop is too drunk behind the wheel of his car texting me that he doesn't know while trying to break the land speed record in his illegally registered ute
When he pulled me over, he asked where my plate was and I said at home, as it had come off and was damaged, His reply was that there were no screw holes, so he didn't believe me. I replied it was tied on with cable ties on the lower grille, as I did not want to drill holes in the body work. When he came back with the ticket he stated that the fine was $375.00 and loss of thre points, but had given me the benefi of the doubt so had only given me a defect notice of $79.00 and no points. I asked then if it was a defect did I need to have my car inspected, and his answere was no, just put the plate on and pay the fine. He even apologised as he walked away. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No, Bob, I wasn't at Dural yesterday, I am at Kellyville, but I did go out along Windsor Rd on Sunday (With a plate on) to meet some mates with Clubmans, as I am building another one at the moment. Cheers, Ross
funny timing, my front plate got stolen the other day, and i went to get it sorted, and reported it to the Police etc, and they took it very seriously, but i dont think my plate will be used for any crime, im guessing its probably on some teenagers wall.
Yep, perpendicular to the roadway and visible from a 45 degree angle in any direction - mainly so the speed camera gets a good look..
