I dont understand why this guy took the revs so high? http://www.nothingtoxic.com/media/1166847198/Unlucky_Guy_Ruins_an_Eighty_Thousand_Dollar_Motor
""$80K Motor" BS! The revs werent that high were they? Listen to my 348 dyno run mate. It sounds like it is reving harder than that NSX? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136321415&postcount=7
sounds like it was only just coming "on cam", 6500-7000rpm i reckon. vtech kicked in yo edit: after watching again i'd say barely 6000 rpm
The title of the video might have been a mis-translation of 80k automobile. Yeah, not sure what happened there.
I know that the oil pump's function and oil flow are severely limited at 8200 (or was that 8300 rpms). I don't think the rpms are that high though.
Hi. I am a NSX owner. This vid was posted on the NSX forums a few years ago. The car in the video had NOS. BTW, a new engine cost between $23k-$25k directly from Acura.
Do you think the guy taping was the owner, he sure put the camera down fast. BTW $23K for an engine in an exotic is not much money.
Would you call an NSX an exotic? The owner was probably recording it. I was recording my Dyno runs while my mechanic was ramping it up on the Dyno.
I believe the NSX was the first production engine with Titanium connecting rods. One of the very few that even have them now.
Nice!! So we can safely say that this NSX engine didnt throw a leg out of bed then? Does anyone know what happened to this engine? What damage was done and why it happened?
In 1990 the NSX was definitley an exotic. Remember those years wern't great in the world of sports cars, the 911 was a 964, there was no 355 yet, no 512, and the Corvette didn't even have an LT1 yet. Maybe by todays standards, no. But it is still an all aluminium aggressive looking car with better than average performance.
That NSX engine was blown by Mike Mahaffey, owner of Altered Atmosphere Motorsports, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. FYI.
Funny you say that......just a Honda......largest Engine manufacturer in the world, competes in more racing than virtually any other manufacturer, bikes, open wheel, the list is a huge one, usually end up winning everything they enter, during arguably the best era of F1 (turbo era) their motor was used in the completely dominating Mclaren car which saw Senna/Prost win 15/16 races. IIRC their engines have been dominating IRL for years.... Honda has been at the forefront of automobile engineering (emmisions, Alternative fuel, Robotics) and racing for many years, ever looked at the news recently, look at Ford and GM maybe you should think before you type.........you always seem to make an ass of yourself, First its Supras and now this haha
