    Hello my friends!

I just wonder if anyone can tell me how many mufflers there should be on a Quattroporte III?

My car has first the Euro headers, then some small mufflers (one each side) which looks like catalytic converters I believe.. Then further back (in front of the rear axle) its got another pair of mufflers that are much bigger, then the pipes goes past the rear axle, and both pipes goes into a small muffler which connect both cylinder banks. Then again out into one thin muffler on each tail pipe. A total amount of 7 mufflers!! Are all these parts standard? It is somewhat "soft" in the sound. I remember another QP III had a much more distinctive sound with much harder "pulses" going out from the exhaust tips...

    Any ideas? Thank you!

Ps. I have had bad dreams at night about this (before I started the engine for the first time after the engine job which had to be carried out after I bought the car with damaged engine....... :)

Here is a diagram. US had either 4 Cat or 2 Cat system - I put 4 on my car there!

Euro looks like this and I think it is 4 resonators and then the back. Trust this helps but if you go to the Eurospares website and look for parts for the car (they usually dont have any) they have all the blow apart diagrams like this for the car.

In Euro spec the two at the front end are not catalytic converters, just absorption dampers. I replaced them with catalytic converters to get rid of headaches after driving the car. CO came down to 0.09%.
I think removing the big mufflers in the middle would give you the desired result at the rear end (pulsing V8 sound) but with the risk of an annoying resonance in the cabin. For that reason you must always keep the mufflers are the rear end. Straight pipes there give a lot of noise outside AND inside due to resonance in the car trunk.

Thank you. Yes my system looks just like that on the picture. I will have to check the other one that I heared too. My rear tips are not original. Where can I get those? What is the original diametre of the pipe inside the big chrome tips?
