Sat having the MOT on the mondial and just been told that both number plate lights on the rear plate are inoperable. Does anyone have the wiring diagram and fuse location for these items. I'd not even noticed them in pre MOT check as they are tucked away under the boot.
It's probably corrosion.. One of mine wasn't working either. Simply unscrew the plate lights and it will speak for itself. I guess you will find some dirt in them as well Make sure all is clean and making good contact.
Mine were completely rusted in place. Removed them in pieces, cleaned and put in new bulbs. My car has virtually no other rust so I'd say it's a trouble spot.
Ditto for me Corrosion was so bad on my lights I had to break them to get them out. Cleaned everything and replaced the lights. Funny, these two bulb holders were the only ones on the whole car with this problem.
Many thanks for the tips. Feels like a Saturday morning job. Also failed on emissions apparently the hydrocarbons are high... I agreed as it is a 28 year old car.... but apparently needs some attention. .
A four hour drive at 70mph and then a new catalytic converter? I've read the probst book twice on our FI system and decided it's too smart for me. I leave that to the techs that knew these systems in their day. And I'm pulling this out of my backside so don't listen to me, if you are running premium fuel through the car I'd try switching to regular grade. Premium has a higher burn point, maybe some cheap stuff will burn more completely? It's something at always rattles around my melon. Make sure all the ignition items are clean. Plugs look good, cap and rotor are clean and ignition wires have good ohm readings. Make sure your extenders are in good shape with no burn spots on them. Any ignition issues will run those HC numbers high. This is all armchair mechanic, it's worth what it cost ya
Could be your cat if you have one.. but I would start testing your Lambda sensor and a new air filter and like Dirk mentioned the ignition. then.. go for a long drive (at least 100miles) and hit the pedal to stay a bit in high refs to clean the engine a bit. Some indications: Possible bad Cat -> High CO, low CO2 Polluted air filter -> High CO, High CO2, low HC Ignition problem -> High HC When was the last time you drove your fuel tanks to empty? Drive to almost empty state and fill it up with BP ultimate (Ron 98) and run it again some 50miles to get the water out of your system. HTH Tijn
Were your hydrocarbons a little high, or way over the threshold? If a little high, then maybe an "Italian Tune-up" will fix the issue as others have suggested.
Aaaaa ha, Who is Bob...? 😄 And, the lights are the same on an Alfa GTV6,,, But, the black plastic light holders are NLA.... Careful with those. Some handy gent here on FChat made his own...? Seen one or two on fLeaBaY, 120.00 or so $$$$. Edwardo
