Just discovered today that lead 2 & 5 had somewhere down the road been swapped on the distributor cap. Cylinder 2 was connected to "5" on the cap and vice versa... No wonder it has been running a bit rough on that side.

The distributor for cyl. 7-12 has off course the same numbers,1-6. Just to be sure ; what is the correct way here ?

    My car has as follows : Cylinder - cap, 7-1, 8-5, 9-3, 10-6, 11-2, 12-4

    Is this correct ?

400Register has OM's on line, refer to page 118 (electrical schematic) of your specific manual:

    http://www.400register.com/manuals/assets/400-owners.pdf

On the right hand distributor, it shows #1 to #6 clockwise with:
    #1 to Cyl. 1
    #2 to Cyl. 5
    #3 to Cyl. 3
    #4 to Cyl. 6
    #5 to Cyl. 2
    #6 to Cyl. 4

On the left-hand distributor, it shows #1 to #6 clockwise with:
    #1 to Cyl. 7
    #2 to Cyl. 11
    #3 to Cyl. 9
    #4 to Cyl. 12
    #5 to Cyl. 8
    #6 to Cyl. 10

    Thus, the firing order is:
    1-7-5-11-3-9-6-12-2-8-4-10 :)

Which cars had two distributors and which had one? I've always wondered that...

What ? Then what I thought was wrong is actually correct :-( Worse still I will have to change the 4 & 6... It would have helped if the original sticker with firing order was still intact. These cars are a handful sometimes....

Thanks for the info blkprlz :)

Someone has been fidling with the distributors since the 4&6 are wrongly connected. That would explain the not so smooth idle on that cylinder bank. I happily thought it was the 2&5 but one learns something new every day :)

But it's fun all the same :)
