I was there. Models have REALLY fallen off. Fewer companies showing, fewer new items. Not much new with Ferrari at all except for Burrago F1 models.

Its the same for trains also. About half the vendors than a few years ago were at Nuremberg. I'm thinking the show may be too expensive and manufacturers are selling online more to distributors. The overall feeling at Toy fair was more positive than last year, but in the model category it seems like a downward trend.

Are people getting over scale models ?

I know I was a big collector for many years but space, cost and interest are all declining.

Hard to tell the trend but for sure the amount of product is dropping. Could be from 3D printing.

when I see the pictures, I believe MR Looksmart is now owned by Spark
BBR does not need a fair anymore. with more then 25.000 subscribers in their mywayclub

since everyone is producing Ferrari models without license, you can get the same model from several producers
prices for used models are also dropping

I owned more than 500 1/43 hand builts
today I own 50 1/18, not many more are coming

That 1/12th Stratos is nice, thank you Italeri. I think the internet has killed hobby shows for model companies, other than military kits. And all are made in Asia now, so they show at the Chinese and Japanese shows only. Kyosho screwed up a lot of the details on their 1/12th scale F40's. It only took them 5 years to produce it, and they still messed it up!!

The Nuremberg Toy Fair has become much too expensive for many to justify displaying at, and the internet also has played a huge part in this, which years ago was not the case. I've been in the model business full time since 1982 (CMA Models, Inc.), and have seen extensive changes over the years, very many manufacturers have come and gone; the majority of which were cottage industry specialists making great hand built models to smaller diecast firms. Also an extreme amount of model stores & dealers are gone. That said, there is still a healthy market & demand for the right models... in all scales, and all price ranges. I'm a collector as well as a model maker, Ltd. editions manufacturer, and specialist dealer. The model business is still alive and well, but just like many other industries, it continues to evolve for collectors and manufacturers; and yes it is somewhat smaller.

Can anyone add any updated information on BBR? Someone stated that they were sold to an investor which this is new news to me as I buy alot of their 1:18 models.... how would this change BBR going forward??

If true it cannot bode well for the future... typically, looking for short term profit, investors increase prices and decrease quality, to maximise earnings before the brand reputation becomes damaged. I think amalgam, for instance, took this path some time ago.

BBR was sold more than 1 year ago
they own now a second factory,, output has massively increased

    what you can see is
It is all about money, Balestrini and Reali often made models for fun, models they loved most
I know both, met them several times. 2 very nice persons

the discount in the mywayclub has changed from 15% to 10%
