New station in my area called Nuvu features 94 octane gas for a lot less than competitors but contains 30% bioethanol. Not sure if this is good for older cars?
30% ????. I would avoid even 5%. I think alcohol can cause swelling of rubber (unless alcohol resistant) and it also absorbs moisture = seized fuel pump(s), internal corrosion of fuel lines etc. Used in alcohol proof modern cars which are used daily is another matter.
Didn't think it could be a good thing, but 94 octane and price was attractive. Recreational fuel is available and does not have any ethanol but octane is only 90. Better to use low octane (90) and no ethanol, or higher octane (90) with 10% ethanol?
May result in lean codes and running lean at wide open throttle as gasoline stoich value is about 14.7. E10 is 14.1 and E30 is 12.9
Did not say anything about ethanol % at the pump. Only put in a few gallons. Anything I can add to attempt to neutralize?
You said it contains 30% bioethanol, no? Edit- Not sure what you meant on the pump comment but it's nothing to worry about. Just top it off with a fuel with less ethanol.
This gives you a good reason to drive the car every day and use up the ethanol quickly. It won't do any harm in a short term, just don't leave it in the system over a longer period of time.
LOL....that wasn't the goal. It was 4 AM and this was the only station open, Used to be a Chevron. The attraction was 94 octane with no mention of ethanol amount, so I assumed it was the usual less than 10%. Only after an internet search did I realize......
FWIW: A search on Pure Gas lists all stations nationwide that sell ethanol free gas has a station less than 5 miles away with 93 octane. E0 gas. https://www.pure-gas.org/
