meh, too far, too expensive, and who knows if they will even ever finish building the thing. they have been sitting at the "trees are cleared" state for over a year now.
It will happen though. Jim Congrats on the article and Michael Kaplan who has become very successful with the track in the past month for now. If you go up there you will basically see a layout of the track and trees cleared out and a lot of building going on. Matt I will take a trip up there with you some day. You will be blown away
i rather spend 100k on a car and "have someone I randomly heard about hit high speeds in a car similar to it."
Lots of things like this have come and gone over the years. I hope these guys make it. Can we take a run to see the construction?
It sounds like this one will make it... We should definitely head up there to take a look...great drive up and actually quite close to NYC. Nothing like opening the WSJ on the commute in and seeing the P4/5 and Jim G being mentioned. Made my day...
This is a great idea. All the fun of racing without nearly as many risks. I hope this works out, I would love to take a trip up there when all is said and done.
These guys are very well organized and shooting for the high-end enthusiasts. As another option, I just visited the Alpine Motorsports Club (http://www.alpinesignature.com) last weekend in the Poconos and actually put down a $500 refundable deposit. Similar in concept to the Monticello club, though the initiation fee is about a third the cost. They've done some very rough cutting of the course through the woods, we 4x4'd our way through the it. The track will be absolutely beautiful if they pull it off. The creator of this particular project has been at this game for some time, having tried (and failed - failure can be good if one learns...) on a previous attempt elsewhere in PA I believe. This particular project has been underway for over 5 years, they are hoping for final permits and construction kick-off in the next couple months. We'll see, but I'm certainly pulling for them because the track looks like lots of fun, it's not that far away, and man do we need some facilities like this to open these cars up.
