    Hi everybody!
A good friend of mine is coming on NY for three months and he would like to go on track and to rent a sport car.
Can you tell me if there are close tracks and how many?
Do you know also who could rent a sport car for track use? In Italy there are only a few that could rent a car on track.

    Thanks

I don't think there's any tracks within 100 mile radius of NYC.

    :p You gotta drive :D

102 miles... and did I just hear someone advocate street racing?

You've got a couple of options that are close:

If he doesn't mind driving for a while, there's a SPECTACULAR track about 4 or 5 hours north:

    • Watkin's Glen International - Website

And then there's the new place that just opened in southern New Jersey (So I cannot attest to how good the place is):

Most of the parks work with the clubs in the area. You can see most track schedules on the track schedule web site

As for finding a car, that'll be the toughest part. Gotham will not allow rentals for track use. Most car clubs will require the car to have a bolted-in fire bottle and a pre-tech inspection.

Your best bet may be doing a mid-week private track rental. It's not that expensive, especially mid week, but the insurance requirement may be a challenge.

The two closest tracks to NYC are Lime Rock, in Northwest Connecticut, and Pocono Raceway in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Neither of those tracks rents cars to drive, unless you are signed up for a formal driving school. Skip Barber runs a driving school at Lime Rock. I am not familiar with any driving school at Pocono.

Performance Driving Association (PDA) will hook you up with track time at a local track, as well as a track-prepped mustang or Miata for the day. They have dates at all the local tracks (although thunderbolt will not be open until July 4th weekend).

If you find a car to drive, the NYMC has dates in June at Raceway Park in NJ, in August at Thunderbolt, October at Pocono, and November at Thunderbolt's second track.

    Matt,

Raceway Park in Englishtown? Is that their road course? I thought Raceway was just a drag strip, that they never got their road course open. Do tell.

Their road course is now open. If you'd like to test it out for yourself, we have rented the entire facility, dragstrip and all, on June 26th. So when you sign up, you can go back and forth between the tracks. The road surface isn't the greatest there, but it's very technical and we can change configurations throughout the day however we want. Should be a really fun day. Let me know if you're interested.

idk about the road course at raceway park, there is a hairpin turn that if u screw up on...i wouldnt worry about the damage to ur car, but the fact that ur gonna be in the middle of a highway... thats why it took so long for ANYONE to deam the track safe, im not sure if they fixed it or paid someone off... just some food for thought
