    Dear NYC Ferrari owners:

My name is George Avgerakis (aka Quasimotor). I am a feature writer for Forza Magazine. I have been assigned to write an article about NYC Ferrari owners and I am asking all of you to consider being a part of this article. There is, of course, no pay, but you will likely get a nice photo of your car, and be able to include the article in your car's historical papers (Some say that having your car in a magazine like Forza adds value - I don't know about that.)

While the text of the article will mostly be recorded interviews with you, either in person or over the phone, I anticipate that there will be a photo session for the purpose of assembling all the NYC cars (gosh - how many do you think you are??). Perhaps we'll get enough that the Mayor's Office of Film and Television will give us a permit to use a famous NYC location (I'd be interested in your favorites.).

No doubt if this comes off well, Forza will do follow up articles (do you recall Playboy's "The Girls of Harvard?") in other key cities.

I consider it an honor that Forza was willing to make NYC the first. So how about it? I know there are several camera shy New Yorkers with swell cars, who never do an article, but certainly there are a lot of you who would jump at the chance to be chosen.

I need to hear from you! Simply write me an email with your name, contacts, year and model and if you like, one sentence telling me something special about your car and what it's like to own it in the Big Apple.

My deadline is one month, so don't delay. I will try to get everyone into the article in some way - which may be a promise I will find impossible to keep, but hell, I'm willing to try.

Many thanks to all - even you shy ones who will not reply.

Such a great thing to do. Thank you George.

BTW, George was the person that wrote that incredible article in Forza back in April of this year regarding an F40 that has been winning every concourse it shows up to, including Cavallino Classics.

    Dear NYC Ferrari Friends

I thank you all for contact me off-line and by way of FChat and I am slowly getting around to calling each of you. Do not fret if you haven't heard from me yet. I've just had a total knee replacement, and I'm a little slow this week catching up.

Although I have some excellent responses, I can use MORE. My goal is to get at least one resident Ferrari owner from each of the 5 boroughs, after which I might include some fringe owners (Yonkers, Nassau, etc) who drive a lot in the city.

The short message here is that I want more of you to reach out! To make that easier, use this email: [email protected].

Many thanks to all - the brave responders and even those shy owners who wish to remain anonymous. "There can never be a bad NYC Ferrari owner."

It seems I am getting a lot of calls from guys just outside NYC proper - that is Nassau Cty, and Westchester. I need Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx most of all. But if there's anyone out there who keeps a car (or just drives it) in Manhattan or Staten Island, I need them too!

Please guys! I pitched this story because a well-known Manhattan Ferrari owner said there were tons of people who drive regularly in NYC and often keep their cars in the city. I nearly bet him money that he was wrong.

Are you all telling me I should have laid down some cold cash???

Those were mighty nice words about my article on JC Chen's awesome F40. What a fun thing to write (and hopefully one day to ride in - hint hint JC). The dedication of many F-car owners is what makes our fraternity the special group it is.

To whit, fellows - I need more NY City "Big Apple" owners and drivers. Cheers to Dr. Ng for his great interview tonight. It's a great start. A subtle Tour de France Blue California - understated as one might expect from a sensitive New Yorker who drives through Wall Street protests every day. Bravo!

How about some more of you please sending me an email so I can contact you about this historic article, "The Ferraris of New York City." Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island too! Any year - any model. 15 minute phone interview gets you immortality!

    Readers:

I am still looking for a Bronx Ferrari owner(s) willing to talk to me about their ownership experience in NYC. A 10-15 minute telephone interview is all it takes. PLEASE!

If you are out there - let's hear it from Da Bronx!

Please email me at [email protected] and we can get the ball rolling.

Yes, the article is finished...for now. It turned out to have over a dozen NYC owners in it and it ran for 3500 words - way too long for Forza's needs. So I cut it into two articles - one, for Forza, about the difficulties of owning and driving a Ferrari in NYC, and another article on well - the unique character of NYC Ferrari owners. This second article is under consideration by another national magazine dedicated to Ferrari. None of the responders whom I notified of inclusion in the stories was deleted.

In the process of searching for participants I discovered many interesting owners in Long Island, Westchester County and Connecticut, so I will certainly be following up with these people, either to write individual human interest pieces (Heavens! Have a soccer mom in an FF with a daughter who carts!!!). In addition if these two articles are well received - hint to all you "Letters to the Editor" writers - I may get assigned other cities to cover. Right off - I'd like to do New Orleans, with Miami and LA obvious too. But what about Salt Lake City? What about Detroit???! Hey you Ferraristas out there! Speak up. Write up. WORD!

That, my friend, is like predicting the weather. Probably the next issue, but it depends on the editor's space allocation - so maybe the ish after that. It's how they get you to buy more copies, or - need I suggest - subscribe.
