The news here is that I have an official booked date on The Lightning Course at Thunderbolt, on Wednesday, August 20th. Members, sponsors, please invite your friends, so we can have a great day. We have the track all to ourselves all day, so even if we have 60+ cars, we will still get more than enough driving time. Run groups will be broken up into Novice, Intermediate, and Expert, so you will be able to drive with people who match your experience level. To drive in the expert group, you must present either a valid race license or a graduation certificate from a known racing school.

This is a brand new track that will be opening less than 5 weeks before our scheduled track day. The facility is beautiful, the track is 2 miles long, and the pavement is pristene. It is just under 2 hours south of Manhattan.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20th - ALL DAY!
    Thunderbolt Raceway
    Buckshutem Rd.
    Millville, NJ

nope. anything from mild to wild is welcome, race cars included. there are no sound or muffler restrictions at thunderbolt. as long as it will pass the basic tech safety inspection (seat belts, brake lights, battery secure) you should be fine.

sure they do. all race cars, including F1 cars, are required to have brake lights.

Thunderbolt promises to be a nice relatively local track to the NY metro area. Car and bike circles are definitely anxiously awaiting this one! Whether tracking two wheels or four, will sure beat Pocono's infield (as the existing closest track) at least for bikes. Looking fwd to getting my Ducati out there!

Trackday is amazing...we have a lot of time until August. I will go even if it's to watch, but I want to participate although I will be in the NOVICE category :(
and yeah "PorscheturboS" is right, F1 cars don't have brake lights.

That's why I said probably just watch. The fact I own a Toyota MR2 Turbo makes me feel so out of place in the list of these meetings...a reason I don't usually try to join any.

How do I sign up??!! Count me in. I'm really hoping to get to run on that track, and would love to be a part of this event. Expect I'll be running my Corvette Z06. It will be a good warm-up for Watkins Glen Labor Day weekend with FCA.

Maybe I'm wrong about F1 cars having brake lights, I guess I was thinking of the fogs. If you bring an F1 car to the track day and it doesn't have brake lights, I'm sure we can overlook the standard tech inspection. But yes, you can bring any car you like, street or race. I haven't asked about running motorcycles on the track, I'll find out about those and get back to you guys.

If you want to sign up, PM me or email me at [email protected] and we'll get you booked.

You should come and run the MR2. I'll most likely be running the Mini, which is far from the fastest car out there. And a track day is a good day to feel right at home at these types of events. You never know, the supercar boys may be impressed with your skills!

And If I have any say in it, bring the Cup car, you really can't go wrong with that!

Good to know I'm allowed to your event Matt. I will try to make it somehow...since I will have a couple of months to get everything ready for this event.

sweet we may have to go back down there to watch that... do you know which course they are running?

btw. i'm booking a second date in november at the other track at thunderbolt, which will be completed in august. it's a bit longer and twistier. so i'll let everyone know about that.
