    Does anyone have experience requesting historical records from the New York State DMV? I have an old photo of my uncle's 1967 Corvette which shows the license plate number which I was hoping to use to obtain the VIN. Unfortunately all of my uncle's records of the car disappeared in a basement flood, probably along with some baseball cards ;), and this seems like the last resort for relocating the car.

    I have a little booklet "How to Find Cars and Owners", copyright 1991. In the section for New York, they say that retention is 5 years: "Documents are destroyed after 5 years, no microfilm records are kept."
