Such a nightmare - 1991, so it uses the rollers/emissions test - I have heard using highest octane fuel/octane booster helps, any other tricks people have tried? Greatly appreciated!

Next time bring your friends Ben Franklin and Grover Cleveland?

What part failed? What would it cost to fix?

Tried the friends - no luck so far ... might just have to try a few more locations, just hate having them put it on the rollers (nothing has failed, just running rich) - glad to hear if anyone knows of a place which may be more friendly ... of course, not the best idea to post on here, so please drop me an E-mail - thx again for all the help!

Gas station on quaker ridge rd in New Rochelle, NY. Now you know what to do next to get your car inspected.

Your easiest bet is to take a nice drive north of the city and schedule something up there. I had my car inspected in Amenia and for whatever reason the "state" laws are different up there. Pre-96 cars do not have to go through the roller/dyno test. They just check the lights, brakes, and that the check engine light is not on. Took me 10 minutes last weekend with no stress at all and only cost $21. I'm a new york city resident with the car registered here so technically i shouldn't have been able to do this but i've done it serveral times at different shops without issue.

True. The NYC area has different (more difficult) emmissions levels to achieve. Amenia may be a bit far though but worth it.

I'm sure you can find a place south of Amenia that will still do it this way. I don't know where the NY state line is ;)
