As my wheels-off detailing of the whole car moved to the rear of the car, I found this. Some uninformed shop (or prior owner) tried to lift the rear of the car by throwing a floor jack under the center. NO!!, not a proper lift point!! And, of course the rear cross member was bent.

Fortunately, another Fchatter had a NOS one sitting around, so, after painting it Rossa Corsa, and then black, it was installed in the car. Not as simple as it looked, but it allowed me to clean parts you could never reach with cross piece in, and it looks much better to look under there now and see a straight piece.

I imagine this is fairly common, as its so inviting to lift both wheels off the ground from one place, but stick to the advised lift points, or plan on buying new frame pieces (or worse).

Another task done, on to the next thing. Spring is coming.

Mine were bent as well. A little pressure in a press and some paint and all is better.

Your car is waaaaay too clean under there. :)

Well, I admit to liking clean, but when you just cleaned everything for re-aasembly on the lift, it is at its very best.

A little acetone on paint overspray, a little mineral spirits on the grease, wipe down with WD-40, touch up the paint, and some Lexol on plastic and rubber, and Voila! It's clean.

Of course, a lift helps immensely.

You could have pounded it back, but it had major dings on the bottom from a serrated floor jack pad. Then you would have to Bondo it or something to smooth it out. Since a perfect one was available, and all other frame parts are straight and original, it seemed the way to go.
