Look at Andorra very family friendly tax free and not too difficult area to ski. Cervinia is very good snow sure resort some good open runs and you have the ability to visit Zermatt but its not a beginners slope over to Switzerland. Cormayer is excellent for the food more places to eat on the slopes than runs only 1 way up the mountain though. Val d'isere/Tignes excellent ski area but not very beginner friendly 3 Valleys big area, expensive but good skiing for intermediates . Austria has had a good snow record for last couple of years some good resorts. You could take the family to Lapland to ski/Father Xmas experience but expensive. Best advice I can offer don't pay the expense of a big resort if the family are beginners as you physically won't used the area. I am just starting to look at our ski hols for the coming season. Was a Ski Instructor in a previous life hope this helps.
